  • Simultaneous Localization & Mapping (SLAM) with HERE Maps & Mapbox AR for Unity.
Event will be sponsored by Arboormoon Software (Thanks!!) Overview : Simultaneous localization and mapping is the computational problem of constructing or updating a map of an unknown environment while simultaneously keeping track of an agent's location within it. It’s basically what your smart phone does when it does an augmented-reality session. You move the phone and it keeps track of certain points around the room, and it simultaneously builds a map of where these points are and how the phone moves relative to them. The movement is measured internally with accelerometers, then it can see from the camera how the points moved in the camera image, and with these two inputs it can build a 3D model. Then it can track that—that’s the localization—and add new points—that’s the mapping. We will be leveraging the a whole slew of mapping, location tracking and AR technologies including :- - Here APIs and SDKs for maps and location-aware web and mobile apps - - HERE Tracking is a hardware-agnostic, global, reliable and secure IoT location solution. - Mapbox is the location data platform for mobile and web applications. - Mapbox AR is the first comprehensive toolkit combining AR rendering software with global location data About the Speaker, Don Burnett: Don has worked for companies doing projects for Disney Interactive, Microsoft, and Cable Internet in his career and is was a six time Microsoft Blend and IoT MVP.

  • Introduction to GraphQL !
Abstract GraphQL is a data query language an API specification developed by Facebook with a client-focus on shaping the structure of the data alongside strong typing. With a broad and active ecosystem of tooling, we'll explore what a GraphQL API looks like in addition to some mobile tooling and how it could help with web-service oriented app development. Speaker Andrew Sardone (http://andrewsardone.com) will be speaking on this very exciting topic. Andrew is an Ann Arbor-based software maker. He enjoys architecture & industrial design, math, ruminating about technology, and building products. When not by a screen, he’s usually spending time with his wife and wrangling their twin boys.

  • Psychology Behind Compelling Apps
We will be kicking off the year with an exciting talk about building compelling apps by David Truxall. Duo Security will the sponsoring food and drinks at the event. (Thanks !) Agenda: 6:30- 7:00: Food/ Drinks , Networking 7:00- 8:00: Intros and Featured Talk You are welcome to stay on till 8:30PM to continue discussions with the speaker and to hang out with others. Talk Overview : An unfortunate truth about software is that most users don't stick with new apps very long. Sadly, there is no one secret, but addressing human psychology can make your code more compelling for users. This session examines the human psychology behind what makes some software stick and become part of our daily routine. As a developer, you need to employ these ideas when designing features you plan to implement or products you plan to launch. This talk covers three separate techniques rooted in psychology you can implement to make your user's experience awesome and keep them coming back. About David: A long time resident of metro Detroit, Dr. Truxall has been slinging code for a living since 1995, working with enterprise web technologies, modeling business processes, and building public web sites and mobile apps for some of the largest companies in North America. Always an enthusiast for troubleshooting systems, Trux has rescued numerous troubled applications and improved their performance. Co-author of the book Android Best Practices, he speaks at local conferences and user groups. Currently Trux is working in mobility at DXC Technology, bringing mobile apps and their supporting systems to the public sector. Note: The talk will begin promptly at 7:00 , so please plan to be there in advance to grab food/drinks.

  • React Native : Strategies to get started & Core Principles
Abstract: React Native has been on your radar for some time but you don't know the best way to dive in to the ecosystem. There are so many awesome libraries but it's hard to distinguish between what's necessary and what's addressing a pain-point you don't yet have. In this talk, we will consider some strategies for learning React Native and some of React’s core principles. From there, we will discuss how taking a component-based view of our front-end can help us build an application architecture that scales over time. Finally, we’ll examine some important libraries in the React / React Native ecosystem and what problems they are working to solve. Couchbase is sponsoring pizza and pop for the event. (Thank you!) Agenda: 6:30 - 7:00: Food/ Drinks and Networking 7:00- 8:00: Introductions by Organizer followed by Talk 8:00-8:30 : Q&A , Hang out Speaker Bio: Ryan Lanciaux is a professional software developer in Ann Arbor, MI.
