πŸ‘‰ The Rustic Mob

Want to learn Rust? Or perhaps practice your problem-solving or TDD skills? Or just want to enjoy some mob-programming sessions? We've got just the thing for you!

We hold mob-programming sessions where we use Rust to either solve Advent of Code problems or contribute to open source software. Come and join us!

This time we will be working on TVrank, a command-line tool to query basic information about movies and series.

TVrank on Github:
https://github.com/fredmorcos/tvrank

TVrank on CratesIO:
https://crates.io/crates/tvrank

TVrank's (non-existing) library documentation:
https://docs.rs/tvrank/0.7.0/tvrank/

At the start of the session, we will choose one of the open issues listed at the link below to work on:
https://github.com/fredmorcos/tvrank/issues

If possible, it would be tremendously helpful to take a quick look at the issues and at some of the source code.

Some of us use Gitpod for a zero-setup IDE for collaborating on the code. If you would like to do the same, please keep a Github account handy for authentication.

Link to Gitpod:
https://gitpod.io

You can also use your local development environment.

In either case you will need the Mobsh tool for Git branch handover:
https://github.com/remotemobprogramming/mob

We will walk you through the use of any tools.

πŸ‘©πŸ‘¨ About mob programming:

"How can we work together as a team without waiting, distraction, interruption, or multitasking?"
-- Woody Zuill, the discoverer of ensemble (aka mob) programming

Software development is a team sport and ensemble a.k.a. mob-programming can be one way to improve team collaboration and reduce waste.

The Wikipedia page on mob-programming has some information:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mob_programming

βœ… Everybody is welcome, from all walks of life, no matter who and where you are, no matter if you have tried mob-programming or are curious to try it for the first time. Whether you are new to Rust or not. And it doesn't matter if you have been programming for decades or are just getting started.

We make it a rule that this is a constructive space.

We follow the Rust code of conduct, so take a moment to read it:
https://www.rust-lang.org/policies/code-of-conduct
