Building For the Web with Workiva Open Source Projects (Missoula)

  • 3 days ago · 6:00 PM
  • Workiva Office

Workiva utilizes the Dart programming language and tools to develop their client-side web applications. During the last few years, we have open sourced several key parts of our platform. We will look at w_module to see how application lifecycle is managed. The over_react and w_flux libraries will illustrate how complex components can be composed, dynamically updated, and rendered quickly and efficiently. These packages are built atop React JS and implement the Flux design patterns. If you're interested in how you can create statically typed reactive web applications this talk is for you!

Pizza, beer, & Le Croix will be provided. Parking is available in the lot behind the building or in street spots.

This is the same event as hosted by GDG Missoula.
If you can, RSVP there, but here works too. Agenda:

6PM - 6:30PM People arrive, food and mingling

6:30PM - 7:30PM Workiva Open Source Tech Talk (Ben Campbell)

7:30 - 8PM Questions, discussion, networking

Thanks for the presentation Ben. Very cool to learn about the tools your team is using.

George, Thanks for taking the time to tell my visitors what Workiva does! It's part of opening a new world to them. The girls have a lot of support from their Grandmothers, who were there. The more the Grandmothers know, the more likely the girls are to continue to learn about code.

This Meetup was an eye opening experience. Ben's presentation was a fascinating glimpse into the tools development team will use for coding a highly-collaborative cloud-based application.

I am mentoring a couple of young teenage girls in the field of web development. So far, both of them have learned how to use WinSCP to backup websites. I was wondering if it would be appropriate for them to come. I would review the topics with them ahead of time.

Hi Nora.. I'd encourage them to come for the environment and to meet people. The tech talk might be tough for absolute beginners.

Thanks, Rob! It is the environment that is most important at this time. Just the idea that, "Yes, you can come here. And, yes, you can get to this place," is the message I want them to hear! I can do a little pre-briefing with them over a snack!
