Blockchain: how it works, and the industries it may disrupt
Kate Stapleton is our speaker for July, and she will talk to us about blockchain: the technology that drives bitcoin. Bitcoin has been the buzzword in the tech community for awhile now but less attention has been given to the underlying technology, blockchain. During my talk I’ll be covering the technology that drives the blockchain, explaining the peer to peer, decentralized environment in which data is distributed across the platform. I will be touching briefly on the ethereum blockchain as well and their smart contract systems and the possibilities moving forwards of sharing larger packets across the network. Finally I will be covering the new and interesting industries blockchain has the potential to disrupt and the innovative ways blockchain is already being implemented that aren’t based solely on crypto currencies. The event layout is super chill. Its a monthly hangout where we start the talks at 6pm (talks are in a variety of areas) and usually last an hour or so. -- Timeline: Doors open at 6:00pm. Talks start at 6:30pm, and the event usually lasts about an hour.

What we're about

An event for women developers to hang out, talk technology, and hack on cool projects. We run talks, have hack nights, and... we'l see what else! We'd love for you to join us if you're a programmer already or just interested in learning more about it.

Bring yourself, your vexing technical problems, and your expertise! If you feel like coding, bring a laptop. We provide internet, food, and witty banter.

This group is intended for women to have open and care-free discussions about challenges, opportunities and anything of interest. Trans women are very welcome! If you would like to attend, don't hesitate to reach out!
