Is racism actually a moral and even spiritual disease that will require more in addition to just changing laws and reforming institutions? Does the cure to finally eradicate it also demand profound changes in how we think and see each other, ultimately requiring a transformation of hearts? Almost no aspect of our society is untouched by racism. Laws have been changed and some progress has been made, but how far can those solutions take us on their own? After slavery came Jim Crow. After Jim Crow came mass incarceration and institutional racism. Attempts at remedies through Reconstruction and the Civil Rights Act were not enough – the disease simply found new ways to thrive, mutating its form to infect our education, judicial, health, economic and other institutions and systems in ways – overt & covert – that continue to persist today. So what else is called for? Is a spiritual remedy also needed to help heal what is at its core a moral and spiritual disease? Humanity is not a collection of laws or social regulations. Rather, we are defined by our common nobility as spiritual beings. While finding strength in our “unity in diversity”, might recognition of our essential oneness help bring about the transformation of human hearts that no change in law could ever achieve on its own? Come join a different kind of conversation – one that welcomes every perspective in a search for the truths that unite us all – as we discuss the spiritual perspective offered by the Bahá’i Teachings on the elimination of racism. Please join us for a lively discussion as we explore how centering our beliefs and actions on the oneness of humanity can lead to a restructuring of society that could finally cure the disease. “We must lay aside all prejudice—whether it be religious, racial, political or patriotic; we must become the cause of the unification of the human race.” – Bahá’i Teachings *** This event is free and open to all regardless of background or belief. Can you turn on the tv or check your news feed anymore without being bombarded with images and headlines of chaos and struggle? Could it be that humanity is facing not just material challenges, but that we are experiencing the growing pains of living through a spiritual age of transition, a crucial step in humanity’s pathway towards progress? Everywhere we look we seem to be faced with the growing fractures in our society, but lacking in a true understanding of why or a clear vision to see us through. That the presence of chaos in the world around us is growing seems inevitable. And yet the existing systems meant to mitigate that chaos no longer seem able to heal the growing divisions that are threatening the status quo. But is that a bad thing? Or could this chaos actually be shedding light on the need for a new way forward? Come join a different kind of conversation – one that welcomes every perspective in a search for the truths that unite us all – as we discuss the spiritual perspective offered by the Bahá’i Teachings on the greater forces that emerge out of this chaos. Join us for a lively discussion as we explore the realities of our rapidly changing society, the spiritual tipping point we are now entering, and what we can do to help us all emerge as a stronger and more unified human race. “The Earth is but one country and mankind its citizens.” – Bahá’i Teachings *** This event is free and open to all regardless of background or belief. Is unity just a passive state of tolerance, simply the absence of conflict? Or does it require positive action to achieve? Can a spiritual understanding of this principle provide a roadmap to help achieve it? With each passing day, it seems like we are realizing more and more how interconnected we all are, how much we depend on one another. Particularly evident in times of crisis, old patterns of existence based on perceived differences and division aren’t working for us. But does just wishing for unity make it so? Are good will and positive thoughts enough? Or does unity require universal active and positive participation? Can a spiritual understanding of unity in diversity help us harness its power to create a more materially and spiritually prosperous society for all? Is there specific guidance we can follow, methods we can enact to view unity not just as a lofty idea worth aspiring to, but a strategy for action to be used in affecting positive change? Come join a different kind of conversation – one that welcomes every perspective in a search for the deeper truths that unite us all as we discuss the spiritual perspective offered by the Bahá’i Teachings on the power of unity in helping us enact a social & spiritual transformation. Join us for a lively discussion as we explore the role each of us can play together in building more unified communities that work for the betterment of us all. “...we must all strive with heart and soul until we have the reality of unity in our midst…” – Bahá’i Teachings *** This event is free and open to all regardless of background or belief.
