10 - Greek Island Dreams, 40's - 60's Singles Vacation - 2022
Greek Island Dreams
Athens - Mykonos - Santorini - Crete
Is your dream to visit a place full of beauty and history, where you can relax and feast your senses? Greece and its islands are the ideal place for this!
On this vacation, you will visit Athens and explore the ancient Acropolis, ferry from one Greek island to another, see all the amazing sites, spend time on beautiful beaches and create a memory of a lifetime! Drive around Mykonos island on a jeep safari, see the beautiful sunset in Oia, Santorini and visit the ancient ruins of the Palace of Knosos in Crete.
Itinerary:
July 08, Fri: Athens, Greece
Arrival and transfer to the hotel.
Meet the group at 3pm. Private tour of the Acropolis and welcome dinner at an authentic Greek restaurant.
July 09, Sat: Athens to Mykonos
Morning ferry to the island of Mykonos. Transfer to the hotel upon arrival. In the afternoon enjoy a walking tour. The early evening scene is centered on Little Venice where we can sip a cocktail at one of the many bars close to the water's edge, watch the sunset and have dinner (not included) in a typical local restaurant.
July 10, Sun: Mykonos - Jeep Tour
Today we get to see the hidden charms of Mykonos while driving a jeep! Drive along Houlakia beach, then through the region of Marathi, past the dam and Panormos beach towards the bay of Agios Sostis. The beaches here are totally secluded and far from the busy coasts of the southern side. We will see the Ano Mera region, and the ruined Venetian Castle of Paleokastro. There will be time for lunch at a quaint seaside tavern. Then continue the drive along the southern coast past Kalo Livadi beach and Agrari Beach, where we have time for a refreshing swim before we return to our hotel.
July 11, Mon: Mykonos / Delos
This morning we temporarily leave Mykonos for our excursion to the neighboring island of Delos to visit the Temple of Apollo and other fascinating archaeological sites. We head to Mykonos Old Port to board our 30 minute cruise to Delos, the legendary birthplace of the Sun God Apollo and his twin sister Artemis.
Afternoon adventure to the world famous PARADISE BEACH. Sand, sun, drinks, music, good food, fun & beautiful people best describe this hot spot
July 12, Tue: Mykonos to Santorini
We leave Mykonos behind as we travel on an afternoon ferry to the island of Santorini, perhaps the most breathtaking of all the Greek Islands. Transfer to our hotel in time to enjoy a late afternoon and evening in the town of Thira. For those who want to go clubbing in Santorini, tonight is a great night to do so.
July 13, Wed – Santorini
Tour the island of Santorini. Visit Prophet Elias Monastery, stop at the famous Red Beach by the village of Akrotiri and on to the black beach of Perissa, where we can have lunch and swim before proceeding to the picturesque village of Megalohori. Sunset in Oia is not to be missed! Our group will arrive in time to browse the tiny shops and get a good view.
July 14, Thu - Santorini to Crete
Today a ferry cruise to Crete, the largest island in Greece. We will see the Koules Venetian Fortress on the breakwater of the harbor, where it has stood since the early 13th century. We will have time for beach and swimming before we go out exploring for the evening with our tour leader.
July 15, Fri - Crete
The center of the Minoan civilization was the Palace of Knossos. Hear the legends of the Greek folklore while exploring the palace. We’ll visit the center of Heraklion town, surrounded by a formidable medieval wall. Maybe have a coffee, a Greek dessert or an ice cream in one of the many coffee shops on the main square. Spend some time shopping, buy a designer outfit or a last minute souvenir - you may find a curio distinctly different from the typical "gift".
July 16, Sat - Crete
There are so many sights to see and activities available on the island of Crete that today is your day to choose what you would like to do. The choice is yours!!
Tonight we gather together for music, fantastic views and our Farewell Dinner.
July 17, Sun - Depart Crete

- EPIC MACHU PICCHU! Three Ways!! Salkantay Route, Inca Trail or Train
There are several ways to get to Machu Picchu. All of them are stunning and storied. WE ARE DOING THE BEST THREE! Each of different ability or difficulty.
Most trips wish to force you to do what they want you to.
We are aiming for what works best for you.
You have the option of
- Salkantay Trek
- 2-Day Inca Trail
- The Train
The Salkantay Trek is an ancient and remote footpath located in the same region as the Inca Trail where massive snowcapped mountains collide with lush tropical rain forests. It is less travelled than the Inca Trail, with breathtaking vistas! Considered by many the better alternate to get to Machu Picchu. It is also not that heavily regulated with government taxes and fees. Hence, the good price!
The 2-day Inca Trail is the "tourist" route. We are doing the 2-day Inca Trail hike, which is the second half of the classic Inca Trek. It will be shorter and less difficult than the Salkantay Trek. The view is stunning - mostly rainforest canopy and ancient historic sights.
The Train is just as it sounds. No long hike. Travel by rail and with less effort. This is intended for those with either less mobility or those that wish to glamp it a bit.
Peru is an amazing place with many unbelievable surprises. We are sampling a little bit of everything - from the tall peaks of the Andes, to the majestic Inca ruins, to the legendary Palomino Islands near Lima (a sanctuary of sea lions, pelicans penguins and seagulls), to the famous Peruvian food and the pisco sour!!! This is indeed a trip of a lifetime! Come enjoy this beautiful country the way you want - be it with a stunning 5-day hike (Salkantay), "The Classic" (Inca Trail) or the luxury way (The Train)
For the event we will begin together with a few days in Lima and in Cusco but will reach Macchu Picchu - the culmination, in different ways!

Here are the event links for the actual trip if you are interested in going.Meetup on The Orient Express (Spring 2022) https://www.meetup.com/CulturalArts/events/276531521/

Meetup On The Orient Express May 2023 https://www.meetup.com/MoreToExplore/events/282270473/

May 2022 has one spot left AND people are signing on to a wait-list OR they are making a depost on a later date to guarantee holding thier space. Also . . .. some folks like to plan ahead. Pick the date that works for.IF you are Confirmed for any of these three events you are able to attend this zoom
If you are just "interested" but have not made deposit we do have a zoom every other week for that.
