The single most important thing ALL startups have to get right!
Details
Charlie Gunningham has spent more than 20 years in Perth's startup scene, and has perhaps 'seen it all'. He admits to making more than his fair share of mistakes, has got the badge, T-shirt and DVD to prove it. But he got out the other side, older, and wiser.
Over the past few years, he's worked on a federal government grant program, and met hundreds of WA-based entrepreneurs, startups and innovators. Most seem to be making the same central mistake (... the same one Charlie did when he set out on his own startup journey with a dotcom back in 1999).
What is that mistake, I hear you scream? And why's it almost terminal? How do you know if you're doing the same? How can you stop yourself from doing it? What SHOULD you be doing instead?
Well, you'll have to turn up to find out, or watch the online broadcast. Or miss it, whatever.
About Charlie
Originally an Economics teacher from the UK, via Singapore, Charlie landed in Perth in the late 1990s to do an MBA at UWA. Graduating as top student in 1999 he set up aussiehome.com, an online real estate business, running it for 10 years before selling to REIWA, whereupon Charlie and his team ran reiwa.com.
He then moved to Business News to lead their digital transformation becoming CEO. In 2017, he set up Damburst, his own digital strategy advisory business. For the past 3 years, he has worked on the Accelerating Commercialisation program, a federal government fund that put $13M+ of grants into WA businesses.
Charlie's also an angel investor (with a few startups he is currently working on), is managing editor of Startup News, writes for Business News and is co-host of the Startup West podcast.
