The Human Side of Podcasting. Discovering social impact and business ideas.

Details
Is your podcast there to promote your business idea or cause, or is it a vehicle through which you can discover and shape it?
In this session Lachlan Samuel (host of the Open Up Podcast) and Bryn Edwards (host of the WA Real Podcast) speak about how they have both created podcasts initially as a vehicle to follow their curiosity, connect more deeply to those around them and add more meaning to their lives.
However, it is though being consistent, refining their podcasting craft and reflecting across many many stories that Lachlan and Bryn now understand their area of impact at a much deeper level which is yielding marketable and commercial opportunities.
There are key lessons here about longevity in podcasting and discovering unexpected gems along the way.
If you want to add more depth to the human element of connection that podcasting brings, and build a podcast that lasts, this is for you.
About Lachlan
Lachlan Samuel is the host of the Open Up Podcast (https://www.openuppodcast.com), the show Making Mental Health Mainstream, through the sharing of deeply vulnerable stories, where our guests overcome seemingly insurmountable adversity.
Lachlan is an ex FIFO worker, who whilst working away, had a partner who suffered with depression and attempted to take her own life. As a result, he also experienced depression and was ultimately forced to resign. Later, he too attempted to take his own life, lost a friend to suicide & upon return to FIFO, was evacuated for being suicidal.
Lachlan started the Open Up Podcast as a means of helping those like him. Those that felt alone and misunderstood. Through consistency, the podcast has lead to many opportunities, including speaking, becoming a brand ambassador, weekly sponsorship and most recently, played a major role in securing Open Ups first contract to provide mental health workshops to oil and gas FIFO workers. *A second major contract is in its final stages.
About Bryn
Former Management Consultant armed with a Masters in Business Psychology, Bryn from an early age knew there were easier ways to navigate life and was a sponge for life lessons and wisdom.
Following a number of epiphanies and life events, in 2017 Bryn decided to pursue the oldest form of learning – that being listening and learning from those around you who have ‘been there and done it’ – and created WA Real podcast (https://wareal.com.au), which features long-form conversations that deep dive into the real stories of some of the most fascinating and inspiring people in WA to unearth ‘golden life nuggets’.
Their stories aren’t the glossy manicured ‘feel good’ stories that are served up on mainstream media; they are the real stories full of human complexity and contradiction that you can connect to and learn from.
WA Real has been consistently sharing over 110 stories every Monday morning from over 2 years.
