What we're about

I started KS Kayaks in 2017 with the belief that anyone can (and everyone should) experience the thrill of kayaking through the beautiful Lowcountry. This Meetup group is for anyone interested in kayaking and kayak camping. I will schedule many different events ranging from beginner paddles to more advanced day trips. In addition, we will have monthly camping opportunities.

Some events will be free (check the description of the event for experience required), and some will be paid events.

If you have never kayaked before please take our intro to kayaking course - contact me to schedule a date.

Basic Safety & Rescue for Kayakers!

3050 Marlin Rd

$40.00

Details Kayaking is a fun sport and wonderful exercise that can be enjoyed by everyone - from children to advanced retirees. Many people buy a kayak, jump on the water, and think they are ready to go. But.... in the event of capsize do you know how to get back in your boat? Are you confident you can help your friend? Are you sure??? If you have never taken a safety course (or feel you need to brush up on your safety skills) this basic safety and rescue course is a MUST DO for any kayaker - regardless of paddling experience. We will meet at Trophy Lakes on Johns Island (3050 Marlin Road). This is a calm, protected lake - perfect spot for beginners to get their feet (or whole self) wet! Please plan to arrive with time to check in, sign the waiver, and pay the $5 to park. This class will have a maximum ratio of 6:1 student to instructor so you will be sure to receive very personal instruction. Topics covered include: -Basic gear needed for a safe kayaking trip -How to wet exit a kayak -Self rescue (various styles - with and without a paddle float) -Assisted rescues (various styles) PLEASE READ CAREFULLY! What you need to bring: -Sunscreen -Hat -Shoes you don't mind getting wet (no flip flops please - they need to stay on your feet when you are in the water). -Clothing that is appropriate for the weather - remember NO COTTON - it holds water and gets very heavy. Synthetic clothing is the best. -A water bottle -A towel and change of clothes for the ride home. You WILL get wet during this class! -A sense of adventure - this is a fun one! The price for this 3 hour course is $40 - you will need to bring your kayak, spray skirt and paddle. ***Please be sure if you are bringing your own kayak it has at least one bulkhead for flotation. We will provide demo paddle floats to learn self-rescue techniques. If you do not own your own equipment (or have a kayak without a bulkhead) full rental packages are available for an additional $35. PLEASE READ DETAILS BELOW!!! *Pease send a text to Kendra at[masked] (or an email to [masked]) with your cell number and email address so I can send you the course syllabus. If you need a rental please be sure to include your height & approximate weight so I can bring the correct size kayak and gear. You can pay for the rental the day of the event with cash, check or card. I look forward to seeing you on the water! Kendra Tuck KSKayaks.com[masked]
