Time to light up! We will lose daylight Nov 1st, so it will be almost dark when we start the ride. BUT fear not...we can still get some good riding in with lights. See my recommendations at the bottom. Welcome to the Beginner ride at Balboa Park! This group is geared towards new riders getting comfortable with their mountain bike and dirt trails. Also for the riders returning to the trails and need to get their fitness back or want to explore new trails. This is a no-drop, beginner paced ride around some of the best trails Balboa Park has to offer with time to work on some basic skills. It's a great way to get comfortable on your mountain bike, explore some fun trails and make new friends. Lights, I recommend 1400 lumens or more for handlebars and 1200 or more for helmet. I have had the best luck with the rechargeable battery type set up. I use BrightEyes 1600 on my bars and MagicShine 1200 on my helmet. Don't forget about the tail light, some of them come with a tail light included. Mountain biking can be a dangerous sport, and learning new skills can be challenging. Your participation in this group is voluntary and at your own risk. Always wear a helmet, bring plenty of water and if any part of the trail is above your ability and/or comfort zone it is okay to walk it. The ride is lead by Karen St. Germain.
