Carderock First Wednesdays - Midweek Top Roping
The Potomac Appalachian Trail Club Mountaineering Section (PATC-MS) will host social top rope climbing and training for outdoor skills every first Wednesday of every month at Carderock from April through October. We are calling this event Carderock First Wednesdays. This monthly event is open to all climbers, regardless of PATC-MS membership status. No outdoor climbing experience is necessary, but you should be proficient in belaying. Please bring your own climbing shoes, harness, and belay device- the club will not provide these. The club will provide a few ropes, but bring your top rope setup if you have one! If you are new to PATC-MS, look for our Carderock Stewards when you arrive. Starting around 3:30pm, they will be at the crag in red club t-shirts and can help introduce you to the club and climbing at Carderock. We look forward to seeing you at Carderock First Wednesdays! Meet at the far north parking lot of the Carderock Recreation Area (google maps link below), aka the Billy Goat Trail C north parking lot trailhead:,+Carderock,+Potomac,+MD+20854/@38.9759961,-77.2061336,17.32z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x89b63530048f24db:0xcf1b1dc094b5831c!8m2!3d38.9761307!4d-77.2055297?hl=en

Who are we?

We are a diverse group of local climbers. Young and old, male and female, crag rat and alpinist, active and armchair types-We all enjoy climbing in its many varieties. We also share a common interest in promoting safe climbing, conserving the outdoor resource, developing new climbing skills, representing the DC Metro climbing community and having fun doing it! The Potomac Mountain Club, aka, is the Mountaineering Section of the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club, a non-profit corporation, devoted to responsible use of the outdoor resource.

What do we do?

CLIMB! Whether local or further afield, nearly every weekend our members are out climbing. Each year, several expedition-minded people, organize longer trips.

TEACH! We provide instruction for those who want to learn the basics and supplemental instruction through clinics given by members; we are not a school but learn by doing.

LEARN! We sponsor lectures by climbers. Guest lecturers have included: Hans Florine, Rosie Andrews, Fred Beckley, Greg Collins, John Harlin, Lynn Hill, Jeff Lowe, Paul Piana, Marc Richey, Doug Scott, Mark Wilford and Jimmy Chin.

SHARE! We manage a google group (!forum/pat... (!forum/patc-ms)) where members can communicate and post impromptu climbing trips and discuss climbing issues. We use a full service website medium to share information on activities, current events & notices, the membership database, club photo galleries, trips, and membership information.

MEET! We gather for a monthly meeting to discuss club business, enjoy a slide show and socialize with area climbers.
