BOOK SWAP 📚 in BALI! (kind of 😊 - with Bali Coffee, Ayam Bali)! ☕🍗
Bali Coffee Club Jakarta, Jl. Lebak Bulus I No.2, Kota Jakarta Selatan, ID🚨 This is a special joint event of Jakarta Creatives & Jakarta Friends! You don't need to register to both events to attend. We will have a book swap, too! First-timers can go home with a book for free! 🚨
Hello, Jakarta Creative! Are you a member of Jakarta Friends yet? Want to see pictures of past events? Take a look here! And feel free to upload a few pictures you will take at the event 😊
JakCre and JakFri is THE oldest, biggest, most active, and most inclusive MeetUp community in Jakarta… and we invite you to join us for this BALI DAY IN JAKARTA! We will have Bali Coffee and Balinese Chicken while having an (optional) book swap!
Everyone is always welcome to join our events. Our community is all about creating authentic in-person connections in this urban jungle.
Come as you are... it’s the best version of yourself.
ABOUT THE EVENT
We won't actually go to Bali, sadly, but we will visit two wonderful Bali-style places in Jakarta! The setting is very simple: We will hang out for coffee in the morning while having an (optional) book swap and then head for lunch together.
Newcomers are particularly welcomed! We are a very friendly and inclusive community.
We first gather at 10 AM at Bali Coffee Club in Lebak Bulus, a lovely Bali-style caffee (@balicoffeeclub). We will chit chat and get to know each other, have some great Balinese coffee. There's a lovely open terrace on top, spacious and quiet, with many tables. There's also plenty of air-co rooms where we can sit down and chill.
While we are chilling with coffee, we will have a book swap! How does a book swap work? See below! This is optional and firsttimers can go away with a book for free!
There's no strict arrival time (macet macet) and people are welcome to arrive anytime until around 12.00 PM...
..at which time we will see how many people want to go to dinner, and call for a reservation at our dinner venue... an authentic Bali-style resetaurant! It's a delicious, new place nearby called Warung Bali Pak Gede (@warungbalipakgede). There's a lovely non-smoking terrace, too. If you come by car, both places have abundant parking.
At around 12.00 PM we will move to the Balinese resto. It's only 10-minute distance by walk, so let's go by walk! Or go by car or Goride... Your choice!
🚨 If you arrive after 12.00 PM without letting us know that you want to join for lunch, too, you might not be able to get a spot at the table. 🚨
There's no split bill at Bali Warung so bring cash or be ready to do a transfer to the person who takes over the bill. I'd recommend you to bring mosquito repellent with you.
How does a book swap work?
It's simple! Come with a book, leave with a book. As a firstimer, you can go away with a (extra) book for free! You don't need to take part in the book swap, if you don't want to.
There are two simple rules:
- You need to come with a book
- You leave with a book (it's not a lend, it's a swap!)
- You can come with more than one book of course: You come with X books & you leave with X books!
Perhaps you need some inspiration on your next book. Or maybe you just want to mingle with fellow book lovers and talk about literature?
Bring your favourite book, a book you hated, that book you never read, a book you have twice, a book you could not go past 20 pages, a book you read too many times, or a book which is just meh. It doesn't matter which one. We will sit down and exchange books! Come with a book, leave with a book!
I recommend to bring a book in English, but if you don't have any, a book in any language will do.
For any question not answered in the event descirption feel free to DM the organiser.
We have done these events before! Take a look here:

ABOUT THE EVENT
In the world of self-publishing and endless online content, selling more copies of your book than you have friends and relatives is already a success.
In this presentation, the host will explain his marketing strategy, his experience working with YouTubers and podcasters to further his reach, and how he used retroactive continuity to create the "Glenmont Universe"
A writing journey can be a ton of fun, profitable, and something inspiring other writers to find their own path to success.
The 45-minute presentation will be followed by Q&A and discussion, so that you can ask anything you wish to ask!
This event belongs to the series of "How to" workshops realted to writing. We have ad before:

ABOUT THE HOST
Peter Frost David is a writer from the US. He finds an outlet for his chronically overactive imagination through his writing. His work often appears on Reddit’s r/nosleep forum, and his horror stories have found their way onto many best-of-all-time lists. Despite what might be inferred from his unique and genre-jumping fiction, Peter recently moved from Uzbekistan to Indonesia, where he continues his research into monsters, horror, and the development of terrifying alternate worlds.
Peter sold over 1200 copies of his self-published novella. It took only 10 years, a million words of fiction, three abandoned projects, a GitHub repo, and a website.

Introduction to SCREENWRITING for FILM & TV 🎞️🍿 with Jakarta Creatives
Noi Coffee & Kitchen, TIS Square, MT Haryono St No.52 Unit 12, West Tebet, Tebet, South Jakarta City, Jakarta 12810, Jakarta, IDHello, Jakarta Creative! Are you a member of Jakarta Friends yet? JakCre and JakFri is THE oldest, biggest, most active, and most inclusive MeetUp community in Jakarta… and we invite you to join us for this workshop on "Introduction to Screenwriting for Film and TV"!
Everyone is always welcome to join our events. Our community is all about creating authentic in-person connections in this urban jungle.
Come as you are... it’s the best version of yourself.
ABOUT THE EVENT
Script, script, script.
That's truly the first and foremost element of what determines the impact of a film. The direction, the art, the cinematography, all derivatives of the walled-off world presented in the screenplay. How strong are the characters? How packed are the dialogues? How satisfying is the third act? Without these, no matter how fantastical the world or how famous the cast, the film won't work.
Beyond that, the art of screenwriting poses a terrific exercise. How do I convey my ensemble of colorful characters going through a plethora of hijinks within 90 minutes whilst ensuring that the audience will want to sit through them? In other words, how do I write effectively?
From the structure to trimming the fat, from a strong premise to three-dimensional characters, from rich dialogues to utilizing twists, we'll learn not the entire depth of screenwriting, but where and how to look for them.
In this presentation, the host will explain his writing approach, his experience working with filmmakers and narrative-designers to explore the world of story-telling within the confines of professional film-production.
A writing journey can be a ton of fun, profitable, and something inspiring other writers to find their own path to success. The 45-minute presentation will be followed by Q&A and discussion, so that you can ask anything you wish to ask!

An aspiring writer, Ben's first tv screenwriting venture went and found a place on Netflix—find "Dendam" (2024) starring Cinta Laura and other prominent actors. He is currently working on numerous projects and a future cinematic release. He will be helping introduce us into the film industry and the format of screenwriting.

Writers' Club: GIVE & RECEIVE FEEDBACK on your writings 📖🤓 with JakCre
Mad for Coffee cipete, Jl. Asem dua No.27 RT.14/RW.04, Cipete Selatan, Cilandak, South Jakarta, IDHello, Jakarta Creative! Are you a member of Jakarta Friends yet? Want to see pictures of past events? Take a look here! And feel free to upload a few pictures you will take at the event 😊
JakCre and JakFri is THE oldest, biggest, most active, and most inclusive MeetUp community in Jakarta… and we invite you to join us for this WRITERS' CLUB: GIVE & RECEIVE FEEDBACK on your writing!
Everyone is always welcome to join our events. Our community is all about creating authentic in-person connections in this urban jungle.
Come as you are... it’s the best version of yourself.
ABOUT THE EVENT
What's one of the most difficult part in writing? Getting high-quality feedback.
This event addresses exactly this! Plus, writers will have the chance to be part of a friendly community and a support system for fellow creatives. We want to help and elevate each other!
This is what we will do: We will meet at the indicated time (please don't be late) and everyone who wishes to can drop their name on a box for a lucky draw. One person is selected by chance and will need to have a text of any kind (poetry/fiction/non-fiction/essay/article/script/blog/music lyrics/whatever!) ready to share with everyone on a Google drive folder.
Then everyone will take their time and read the piece(s) on their own. We allocate about 60-90 minutes quiet reading time. Readers will take notes on what they wish to give feedback to. The author is also welcome to brief readers on what they should pay attention to or give feedback on.
People who wishes to be there as readers only (that is, without putting their name in the lucky draw box), are most welcome to! The crucial part is that everyone needs to be respectful of each other's craft and give polite, constructive feedback!
After reading time, there is the feedback time! For about 60-90 minutes, we will discuss what we have read, and give feedback to the author.
Sounds easy, fun, and productive? It is. Everyone will have the chance to learn something new! This event doesn't require any preparation! We will read and give feedback on the spot.
This will be a unique occasion to receive a feedback on your writings (of any kind) and to practice your ability to give and receive feedbacks on texts!
This will be a hybrid event! You can join in person or online as explained in the event posted in the new meetup group "How to Become a Writer": https://www.meetup.com/how-to-become-a-writer/
Just be ready to share (not mandatory) a piece of your writing of about 2,000 words (1,000 to 10,000 words is OK, too, but be aware that a shorter piece is more likely to receive plenty of feedback) as a Google Drive link and grant people access to read.
Be sure you will join with a device where it's possible to join a video conference (Zoom/GoogleMeet/tbd).
We have done this event before! Take a look here:
- GIVE & RECEIVE FEEDBACK on your writings 🤓 (hybrid) (Nov 2025)
- GIVE & RECEIVE FEEDBACK on your writings 🤓 (hybrid) (Aug 2025)
- GIVE & RECEIVE FEEDBACK on your writings 🤓 (online) (Aug 2025)
- WRITERS' CLUB (May 2025)
For this hybrid event, we will give people the chance to join online, too! Please register at this event if you prefer to join online: https://www.meetup.com/how-to-become-a-writer/events/312032046/

First-timers can decide to join with a sneek peak price of 50k IDR & pay the remaining 270k IDR at the next event they attend. Registered +1 can attend for free.
Renewals (after 365 days) and upgrades (to join JakFri) are offered at a special rate. All this is aimed at encouraging people to sign up, and then to attend as many events as they like!
Yearly membership can be paid at an event (cash/bank transfer/Gopay) or beforehand (bank transfer/Gopay). Text Corrado (+62 8211 489 3580) if you have any questions about membership.
Membership to both Jakarta Friends and Jakarta Creatives is offered for only 390k IDR/year. Membership gives access to all events plus exclusive perks available only to paying members, like for example our Give Away Birthday Celebrations with lucky draw (Sept 2024) or FREE pasta cooking (and eating 😉) workshop (Nov 2024) or Museum visits with FREE GUIDED TOURS (Sept 2024). To most events, attendees can bring a +1 for free, and we have some events open to all (paid and unpaid) members.
To all members we guarantee to keep organizing plenty of events. You will receive a full refund if the group closes down, or if there’s no event happening in three months.
In the past 3 years we have organised up to 2-3 events per week (browse past event of JakFri here and of JakCre here). That is, with your membership you can attend up to 5-10 events! We guarantee to keep organising plenty of events. You will receive a full refund if the group closes down, or if there’s no event happening in three months.
