Please honor your RSVPs. The software does not prevent you from canceling your reservation after the RSVP dead line, but please try to refrain from doing that. The hosts are complaining to the webmaster about no shows. (and I'm the webmaster)
The Moving On group of meetup.com was created in January 2013 for the existing organization Moving On. The Moving On organization started in about 1970.
There more people at our meetups than show up on-line. Old members call the host/hostess and do not show up in the meetup.com count.
There are different dead lines and different requirements depending on the type of event.
1) Event were there are plenty of seats and no deadline is needed.
The monthly discussions are an example. There is no RSVP dead line.
2) Events were a head count is needed and there is embarassment but no actual money lost for no shows.
Our restaurant meals are in this catagory
The on-line dead line for RSVP's for restaurent meals are generally set at noon the day before the meal. This allows the host/hostess time to make a reservation, without having to keep checking the website. Unlike most other meetup.com groups, Moving On tries to get a reservation so we can all sit together, and the host/hostess can look for new people.
I have changed the dead line to Friday noon for some Monday dinners. The Hostess does not have internet access on the weekend. Call to come or to cancel after this dead line
After the on-line reservation dead line, you can call the host/hostess. The numbers are alway on the website website WWW.MOVINGONSYRACUSE.ORG Generally there is room for a few more.
3) Events that must be prepaid.
In general these events need even an earlier dead line.
The super bowl party, dinner theatre, and the Beaver Lake Enchanted evening are examples It those cases members may need to call the venue and arrange for payment or the host may be collecting checks
In all cases:
Please RSVP events as early as you know that you can come, if you must change your mind do it before the dead line and then honor your commitment.
Also please RSVP on-line even if you have called the host. It is more inviting to see on-line people coming.
This meetup is a good way to meet new friends, but please treat it like you would a friend. If you RSVP yes to an event, please try your hardest to attend. Don't change your RSVP at the last minute or not attend at all. You would not back out of a meeting with a friend at the last minute without a very good reason, so please treat the group the same way.
