BROOKLYN SWING ENSEMBLE, this Saturday 11/17. A lot of Rhythm, a ton of Fun!
The weather outside may be frightful, but the atmosphere in the Summit Church Dance Hall will be delightful. Come warm up to the rhythms of The Brooklyn Swing Ensemble. For a little sample of their swing at a lively New Year's Eve dance a few years ago, check this out: $8.00 dollars for regular admission and $5.00 for students. Refreshments at the break included. This Saturday Night Contra Dance Series runs from September through May, and you can find some details about future dances including the December winter cotillion here: Expect friendly people of all ages and expect to have fun! No experience is necessary. You can come with friends or come solo, but you will have no problem finding partners with this sociable crowd. Every dance is taught, and there are plenty of experienced dancers ready to help you. Contra dancers say, "As long as you are smiling, you are doing it right" There is a lesson at 7:30 for new and newish dancers to learn some basic steps, but if you are running late, just come when you are ready. The evening dance starts at 8:00. For more info on contra dance in general please see: For a video and descriptive and beautifully written blog please see: (Video is towards the end of the blog) Wear comfortable shoes and comfortable clothing. Skirts that twirl are fun, but really, wear whatever you want. Sometimes the room can get a little warm, so layers are good, and some folks bring an extra shirt to change into at the break. We have snacks at the break and water available throughout the dance. Sue Gola from Princeton will be calling to the wonderful BROOKLYN SWING ENSEMBLE: Dan Elias, Bill Peak, Marco Brehm & Sam Zygmuntowicz. Don't skip this. Sue is a creative and clear caller, and this New York City band is not-to-be missed!

What we're about

It's all about the fun! The swirling, twirling, can't stop smiling, grinning, laughing, moving, grooving, and all around just having a great time, fun.

Contra dancers are about the friendliest people on the planet! Everyone helps everyone else and there are dancers from 8 to 80, and sometimes more or less.
