What we're about

This group is organized by the New England Stoics: https://www.meetup.com/New-England-Stoics/.

Every third Sunday of the month the New England Stoics leadership team teaches a class on how to practice Stoic philosophy by focusing on one or more of the three Stoic disciplines: desire, action, or assent. The purpose of this class is to help those who have taken a serious interest in learning the practice of stoic philosophy and how it can be applied to our daily lives.

Each class is about two hours long with a full presentation and dynamic classroom participation. We provide all the material online as well as provide resources to help you study on your own after the class. Each class is a stand-alone class and can be taken independent of the other classes, although we do suggest attending all classes to get the full experience.

This is a subscription-based group. The first class is free and each addition class is $2.00/month.

Stoicism Practice Class

Our Stoicism Practice Class is a free event where you can learn and apply key principles and practices of Stoic philosophy with the goal of developing a virtuous lifestyle and living a happy life. Anyone is welcome to attend, from beginners to more experienced Stoics.

We work through the three Stoic disciplines: Desire, Action, and Assent. The curriculum draws on The Handbook for New Stoics by Gregory Lopez and Massimo Pigliucci, along with other resources our instructors, Marc and Mike, find useful. Each lesson is self-contained, so you can join at any point. However, if you attend the classes in sequence, they do build on each other.

We meet on the third Sunday of the month for 2 hours from 7 pm to 9 pm ET. Below is our 2023 Spring semester schedule.

Jan 22 Discipline of Desire: Desiring the Good, Big and Small
Feb 19 Discipline of Desire: Preparing for Adversity
Mar 19 Discipline of Action: Mindfulness and Humility
Apr 16 Discipline of Action: Being Pro-Social
May 21 Discipline of Assent: Applying Reason to Impressions and Desires

Donations are appreciated. We use donations to pay for the Meetup, website (nestoics.org), and event materials. We do not profit from donations. You can donate on our main Meetup page via Pledge.
