NLHTML5 × Fronteers

Details
Yeah yeah, we know. We said last December's meetup was going to be our last one. But we just miss you all too much! So we're back! A new format, new locations, new speakers (well, some of them), just as awesome!
This first one will be a What The Fest ( https://wwwtf.amsterdam ) event, and Fronteers side event. The format will be very three talks, each 30 minutes. It will be hosted in Amsterdam city center, the precise location will follow soon.
Our three speakers for the night will be Ola Gasidlo (web compatibility), Stephanie Nemeth (art with Raspberry Pi) and Martin Splitt (WebVR with AFrame). See below for more details.
We want to thank our new sponsors, Google and Mozilla, for making this possible. And of course Fronteers, who's been with us since the beginning.

Ola Gasidlo — Let's save the internet: How to make browsers compatible with the web
During the browser wars, compatibility was a mess and so was the web. Dirty hacks, a huge pile of frustration and an enormous amount of time to test through every browser were a part of our everyday life. Times changed. Browser wars are finally over (right?!). But the web is still broken and browsers still work in different ways. In this talk, we’ll explore the reason for web (in)compatibility, how to fix it and how you as wompats can help to save the world (wide web).

About Ola:Ola is a Web Compatibility Engineer at Mozilla living in Berlin, who is very passionate about Open Source, the Offline First concept, web standards and empowering people. She loves making the web accessible for everyone, riding the trails, and daughter-driven development.
Stephanie Nemeth — Creating Art with a Raspberry Pi
Coding has opened up a channel for self-expression and experimentation that I never imagined possible. Inspired by a visit to an art museum, I created an interactive LED art project using a Raspberry Pi & React. This project started out as a challenge to become better at writing javascript, but I found a new passion working with hardware despite a severe lack of technical knowledge. I'll share my story of building with hardware for the first time and how I found ways to overcome my lack of skills and confidence so that you’ll want to tackle your hardware project and won’t give up on it before you ever get started either.

About Stephanie:Stephanie is a frontend developer living in Amsterdam. She was a pharmaceutical chemist in a previous life but now can’t imagine life not as a developer. She enjoys experimenting with hardware and LEDs to make beautiful, useless things.
Martin Splitt — Entering the VR web
VR and AR are hot topics at the moment, and rightly so. Thanks to WebVR we can build virtual reality on the biggest platform we've got: The web.
In this talk we will see how to get started and build VR right on stage, exploring A-Frame, 360° media and more

About Martin:Martin is pretty decent at humaning and pretty good at computering, so he decided to use his computering to improve his and other's humaning.
He loves the open web and open source and helps to make things better with, but not limited to, code.
Notes:
• We are working hard to improve the diversity at our meetups. One way we do this is by saving spots for people in underrepresented groups. If you are on the waitlist and believe you are part of an underrepresented group, let one of our organisers know and you will either change your waitlist status (to 'Yes') or bump you up to the top of the waitlist.
• Smile! We are photographing this event. Let us know if you do not wish to have your pictures posted on this site or on social media.
• Note that by attending any of our events, you are agreeing to our code of conduct (https://www.meetup.com/NLHTML5/pages/24032967/Code_of_Conduct/).
