NDC Community Tuesday: Holographic programming and Fable F# to JS compiler

Details

NDC is coming to Oslo again! And to continue the good tradition NNUG together with NDC organizers invite you to the community Tuesday. Interested in HoloLens? Want to watch F# to JavaScript compiler in action? Then come to our track!

Agenda:

17:00 - 17:30Snacks from NDC and mingling

17:30 Holographic Programming – Turning your reality off and on again with Lars Klint

Virtual reality and augmented reality are terms most developers and technical enthusiasts recognize. What about “Mixed reality”? A reality that is part real world, part digital world, a reality that is enhanced with Holograms. Microsoft’s HoloLens introduces users to an entirely new way of thinking about computing. Learn how to use the Windows 10 Mixed Reality SDK to build completely new experiences that will blow your mind (only figuratively, I hope), and get a sense for what is possible. In this presentation filled with examples and demos, Lars will force you to think about the future of computing in a different way. Bring along your questions.

18:15-18:30 Break

18:30 From .NET to the JS platform with F# and Fable with Alfonso Garcia-Caro

Since Google released V8 there has been an intense competition among the big players to write the most performant Javascript engine. Thanks to this, programs written in this tiny scripting language can now run almost as fast as their compiled counterparts, contributing to a spectacular growth of the JS community as well as making the language a fit not only for the web frontend, but also for the desktop, mobile devices or the cloud. Today we talk about the JS platform the same say as we talk about the JVM or .NET. Fable, a popular F# to JS compiler, lets you keep using the productivity tools you know and love like Visual Studio and .NET APIs while at the same time making F# a true first-class citizen of the JS platform. This means you can target all environments where JS runs and take advantage of advanced development techniques like hot reloading or time-travel debugging. Come to learn first-hand from Fable's author how easy is to start writing web, mobile and desktop apps in F# and seamlessly interact with JS tools and libraries.
