What we're about

Meet like-minded people interested in meditation New Orleans! Learn how to meditate or deepen your current meditation practice. In this group we emphasize practical meditations that are useful both "on the cushion" and in our daily lives. Each class will include guided meditation, and a talk on how to reduce stress and other problems encountered in daily life, while increasing mental and physical well-being. There will also be plenty of time to discuss the ideas presented. Although the meditations and talks are based on Kadampa Buddhist philosophy, you don't need to be a Buddhist to enjoy this group. Kadampa Buddhism stresses a spiritual path of individual transformation and to look within ourselves for the inner peace and happiness we seek.

Everyone is welcome!

Many of us are brought up in a culture that teaches that anything less than perfect just isn't good enough. Our schools, our jobs, our society have evolved in such a way that they promote perfectionism. If we are constantly worried about "success", we won’t be able to happily and confidently engage in study, work, relationships, and even social activities. This type of thinking leads to anxiety, frustration, and depression. It is a thorn in our mind that robs us of joy.

Through Buddha's teachings and meditation, we can learn to redefine happiness and success. We can learn the art of practicing something instead of trying to be perfect. Gradually we can recognize this perfectionistic thinking within ourselves and eradicate it from our mind forever.

Everyone is welcome to join us for this practical and meaningful exploration of happiness.

Awakening to a New Way of Life: Reflections on Post-pandemic Living
A FULL DAY RETREAT AVAILABLE ONLINE OR IN PERSON
Saturday, June 26, 2021, from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Certain events in life have the power to change us. The pandemic continues to be such an event. It has been a collective meditation on loss during which we have found ourselves asking life’s most profound questions:

“Who are we and who are we becoming?”

“How can we help others?”

“How do we transform suffering?”

“How do we find meaning in our lives?”

“How have we been transformed?”

“Will we revert or will we evolve?”

During this life-changing experience, some people have found unexpected resilience and courage. Some have found stillness. Some have found contentment in simplicity. Some have found a deeper compassion. For some, transformation was imposed by unwanted circumstances; for others, it was freely chosen. For many, an awakening has begun.

Where the experience of the pandemic takes us remains to be seen. We have an opportunity now to look at our lives anew. We invite you to join us for a day of reflection on life’s most meaningful questions and the ways in which we can create lasting change.

Session 1: 9-10:15
Session 2: 11-12:30
