As a person of color, being economically viable while shooting for the stars has been a big goal and the focus of my creative work for the past 3-5 years. And I think that is usually the biggest struggle for emerging talent in any field.

ABOUT CHITHRA
Chithra makes intimate films about identity, human relationships, race, art, and health. She has an M.F.A. in film production from the University of Texas in Austin. Her short Mijo aired on KLRU TV and played in 50 film festivals globally. She directed and edited Foreign Puzzle, distributed by New Day Films, the only member-owned distribution cooperative.
Her documentary work is supported by Brown Girls Doc Mafia, Jerome Foundation, Center for Asian American Media, New York State Council for the Arts, BAVC Media Maker Fellowship, Made in New York Fellowship, American Institute for Indian Studies, Lancet, Dance Films Association. She has also pitched at competitive industry events like the IFP project forum and Sheffield Meet Market. She’s an adjunct at NYU Tisch School of Arts.
