What we're about

The NOVA Makers Meetup group is dedicated to creating and supporting a Maker community in Northern Virginia. Everyone with a passion and interest in making things is welcome to join! We have many hobbyists, inventors, and small businesses here who use our woodshop, metalshop, laser cutter lab,3d printing, drone/robotics/electronics zone, thermoformer, and jewelry/stained glass/leatherworking/arts studio. For more information visit our website https://www.nova-labs.org/ Or view our class catalogue and events views at https://portal.nova-labs.org/

Upcoming events (4+)

ST: Technical Literacy for Kids

Nova Labs (Woodshop)

$10.00

Kids learn to use tools, to fix things, about materials, and how real things work by doing and fixing and exploring. This is the inaugural event of 2 kids programs for the summer!

Technical Literacy for Kids: Ages 9 to teens

Ever wonder why so many young adults can't fix things or have no skills with even simple tools. Well, this is an opportunity to get motivated to learn the tools they'll need to be handy around the house as adults. Not to mention competitive teams and art/science classes where they have to build something to age an A. What about the self-empowerment that comes with knowing how to fix things? That's what this summer program will focus on. Getting comfortable with tools and fixing things.

Totally free form like our adult meetups. Get introduced, return to our open office events to practice and grow the skills.

Safety: Closed toed shoes required in woodshop!

RSVP: Space, tools, safety policy, attention, and mentors means we need to limit size of class. Parents need to stay in the woodshop for ages 9-15.
