BL_P:Bladesmithing Project: Forging a fighter style knife from a ball bearing

Students will learn to forge a fighter style knife from a ball bearing. Students will be supplied with either a 1" or 1.5" ball bearing and learn how to use the tools at the labs to work the steel ball down into a hidden tang fighter style knife. Techniques for how to make a handle and bolster will also be discussed.
Prerequisites:
Current Nova Labs member,
Blacksmithing Safety sign off, and
age 16+
Students will:
- how to begin a preform
- how to use set hammers and other top/bottom tools to set ricasso shape and form the tang
- basic beveling techniques
- Get hands-on forging time making knives
- Walk away with a rough forged knife ready to be ground.
- Appropriate steel will be provided
Minors 16-17: May take the class, but parents must remain in the lab and available in case needed or in an emergency.
REQUIRED to BRING/SAFETY: There are lots of sparks. So, you MUST wear Non-synthetic clothes, including leather shoes and long pants are a must. Long sleeve shirts are not necessary, but no shorts.
You must bring your own safety glasses.
Masks are also required for this class.
Class fee is $125.
Please arrive at this class on time. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, you may not be able to take the class and there will not be a refund or rescheduling.
