Open Space for Virtual Facilitation

Details
NOVA Scribes is hosting our SECOND virtual Open Space!
Open Space is a convening format that sets up multiple simultaneous discussions on whatever topics you have interest and energy in. You suggest the topics for multiple breakout discussions, then you participate and discuss those topics with others that share your interest. This isn't a workshop or a class! It's a time to work within the community of virtual facilitators to share ideas, ask questions, and get answers.
The theme of this Open Space will be all things relating to Virtual Facilitation. The topics could be anything, but here's a few we might see:
- Managing Energy and Engagement
- Designing Virtual Meetings
- Overcoming Challenges of Virtual Facilitation
- Digital Scribing
- Tips and Resources
- Sharing Activities and Modalities to Connect People
We can also hit on technology-specific topics, like:
- Zoom
- Microsoft Teams
- Google Docs
- MURAL
- Jamboard
If you're new to virtual facilitation, this is a great opportunity to share ideas and try things out!
IMPORTANT: We'll decide the topics in advance based on the areas of interest you would like to see. If there's a topic or topics you want to cover, make sure you answer the question that's a part of this invite. The NOVA Scribes Organizers will review the requests, consolidate topics as necessary, and assign them to breakout rooms. Topic breakout rooms will be open for the entire two hours so you'll be able to leave and enter into any discussion topic at any time you like. Since the Meetup will be in breakouts
REALLY IMPORTANT: Please log in 15 minutes before kick off (5:15PM EST) to test your audio/visual connection AND to be granted access to the breakouts. If you show up early, it will avoid a backlog of assigning you the right user privileges to enable you to move around freely.
Prior to the event, please get comfortable using Zoom, the webmeeting platform we'll use for video, audio, and chat. If you haven't used Zoom before, download this one-page quick startup guide:

For the Open Space, make sure you have:
- a solid, stable connection to the internet (hardwired is preferable)
- no background noise
- minimize distractions (like doorbells, emails, phone calls, dogs, kids, spouses, or significant others),
- a good headset for either your computer or phone (dialing in by phone will give you the most stable audio connection), and
- most importantly, an open mind and a willingness to learn and share!
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you!
