What we’re about

~ Compassionate Nonviolent Communication (NVC) ~

Come and join us for a fun and revolutionary yet simple and effective process for communicating with empathy, honesty, confidence and compassion. Everything we do in life involves daily communication and language in our personal and professional lives. Our regular Meetups will focus on making life wonderful through playful and interactive group gatherings, while building the power of conscious and compassionate NVC communities.

Inspired by the theory and practice of Compassionate Communication, also known as Nonviolent Communication (NVC), this Meetup group is a gathering place for people to interact with honesty and authenticity.

Compassionate Communication is a process developed by Dr Marshall Rosenberg. It focuses on three aspects of communication: self-empathy (defined as a deep and compassionate awareness of one's own inner experience), empathy (defined as listening to another with deep compassion), and honest self-expression (defined as expressing oneself authentically in a way that is likely to inspire compassion in others).

With Compassionate Communication we learn to hear our own deeper needs and those of others. Through its emphasis on deep listening — to ourselves as well as others — Compassionate Communication helps us discover the depth of our own compassion. This language reveals the awareness that all human beings are only trying to honour universal values and needs.

Through the practice of Compassionate Communication, we can learn to clarify what we are observing, what emotions we are feeling, what values we want to live by, and what we want to ask of ourselves and others. We will no longer need to use the language of blame, judgement or domination. We can experience the deep pleasure of contributing to each others' well-being.

While Compassionate Communication is taught as a process of communication designed to improve compassionate connection to others, it has also been interpreted as a spiritual practice, a set of values, a parenting technique, an educational method and a worldview. Compassionate Communication is simple, yet powerfully transformative.
