PANELISTS:
Brian Cohen is Chairman of New York Angels, one of the most active angel groups in the world. He was the first investor in Pinterest, and numerous other industry leading startups. He is the Founding Partner of New York Venture Partners LLC, a seed stage venture capital firm dedicated to providing an ecosystem of financing, mentorship, and strategic marketing consulting to the best entrepreneurs. Brian advises entrepreneur students at NYU and Columbia University, and is the author of “What Every Angel Investor Wants You To Know: An Insider Reveals How To Get Smart Funding For Your Billion Dollar Idea.” He is the recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Boston University. Brian is a Board Member of BUILD.org, headquartered in San Francisco Bay Area, with operations in Washington, Boston, and now in New York City, since 2015.
Carol Curley is the Chief Investment Officer of The Charian Group, an early stage investment vehicle. She is an active member of New York Angels, and is also currently a Managing Director at Golden Seeds, an investment firm focused on women-led businesses. Carol currently serves on the Advisory Board of Penn/Wharton Entrepreneurship and on the Investment Committee of Chestnut Street Ventures. She has previously served as an Advisor to the Prosper Startup Accelerator in St Louis; a mentor to the Pipeline Angels; the New York Advisory Board of Astia; the Board and Executive Committee of Investors’ Circle, a network of socially-responsible private investors; the Board and Investment Committee of The Dallas Women’s Foundation, and the Board of The Women’s Opportunity Fund, a non-profit microlending enterprise. Steve Davis is a partner in Goodwin Law’s Business Law Department and a member of the Technology Companies Group and the Life Sciences, Capital Markets, and Clean Tech Practices. He has extensive experience in several areas of corporate practice with a focus on venture capital, corporate finance and securities, mergers and acquisitions, private equity and corporate counseling. Steve is also a key contributor to the Goodwin Founders Workbench, an online resource for start-ups, emerging companies and the entrepreneurial community. He serves as an adjunct professor at Columbia Law School in Start-Up Law and is a Lecturer in Venture at the Columbia Business School. Steve joined Goodwin in 2008.
Heather Zhuang is an Investor at Two Sigma Ventures, an early stage fund based in NYC that seeks companies who are delivering change through data-driven science and engineering, to any industry vertical. Prior to joining TSV in 2015, Heather was a quantitative researcher at Two Sigma Investments, where she developed algorithms to model the financial markets, and sort colleagues into lunch groups for fun. She also worked on strategic data analytics and reporting projects for HR, legal, and accounting. Heather credits her fascination with science and technology to black holes, bad weather in the MidWest, and Age of Empires. In her spare time, she's exploring technologies that could augment people-to-people communication, and "missing" data that should be collected for the public good. Heather studied Economics and Statistics at Harvard, and is a National American Miss titleholder.
MODERATOR:
Nathan Sambul provides marketing strategy and communication services, with expertise in market research, advertising, public relations, knowledge management, and consumer behavior. He is a mentor and investor in start-up operations in the U.S., France, and Israel. He is also a visiting professor in strategic marketing to the MBA programs at ISM (International School of Management) and ISEG (l'Institut Supérieur Européen de Gestion) both in Paris. He is the author of Top Trader's Guide to Technical Analysis, published by Dearborn Financial Publishing, and was the editor in chief of The Handbook of Private Television, published by McGraw-Hill.
