What we're about

A monthly gathering where we each take turns sharing our favorite art or culture: songs, poems, stories, paintings, photos, etc...

We each bring something, created either by us or by others, present it, and then respond to each other's offerings.

BROOKLYN HOUSE CONCERT - Elana Low / Sean Kershaw

Chez Gindi

We're invited to Roomful of Sky Music's ongoing House Concert series, featuring two sets of chill acoustic music, right in the comfort of someone's living room! This time around, we're at Chez Gindi (aka Victor Gindi's cozy apartment in the Midwood neighborhood of Brooklyn). Complimentary wine & snacks will be served! ____________________________________________ ACT 1: ELANA LOW "You can call it folk, but this ain't Americana. At once soothing and emotional, Elana's performance is nothing less than cathartic…Her sound draws from something more ancient, and yet is unbound by the forms and structures of traditional folk ballads." —Matthew Gilliam, Eastern Soundboard In 2017, Elana Low bought a used harmonium in Ozone Park, Queens. She wrote her first song the next day and hasn't stopped since. Influenced by Bjork, Joanna Newsom, and Melora Creager, in the past year she has played shows at Sidewalk NYC, Pianos, The Cobra Club, Friends and Lovers, The Topaz, and more. Her performance style "has a trance effect on the audience, inviting comparisons to Nico, Florence Welch, and Joni Mitchell on steroids" (Tony Sokol, Den of Geek) and "the hypnotic harmonium combined with Low's clear, vibrato-free voice create an atmosphere that is quite compelling…The songs sound ancient and modern at the same time, adding to the fascination" (Jeremy Shatan, An Earful of Music). She is currently recording her debut EP, Loam, for Spring 2019 release. https://www.facebook.com/ElanaLow/ https://www.instagram.com/elanasj/ ____________________________________________ ACT 2: SEAN KERSHAW Brooklyn-based music artist Sean Kershaw, whose swaggering, "high-octane honky-tonk" (New York Times) thrills and seduces audiences from New York to L.A. and beyond. Describing his EP, The Aussie Sessions, Sean says: "Audiences that respond to mainstream country music will readily hear the influences of Johnny Cash, jump blues and western swing in the New Jack Ramblers. But it’s the remnants of my background as a punk rocker, and the strange, unexpected tales our songs tell that subvert country purists’ expectations and appeal to an even broader, often younger audience. The new set of songs from The Aussie Sessions brings yet another dimension to our sound." https://www.facebook.com/SeanKershawMusic/ https://www.instagram.com/seankershaw1/ ____________________________________________ PRESENTED BY: Roomful of Sky Music https://www.facebook.com/RoomfulOfSky/ https://www.instagram.com/RoomfulOfSky/ ____________________________________________ NOTES: Ring the buzzer for Victor Gindi (#5-A); WE START ON TIME, PLEASE BE ON TIME. ____________________________________________

Sylvana Joyce + The Moment (9:30pm) http://www.sjandthemoment.com ___________________________ ___________________________ Sylvana Joyce + The Moment: Sylvana Joyce has been hypnotizing audiences along the Northeast with her drama rock – one would not expect such a grand human carnival to emanate from her petite Eastern-European exterior – that is, until the house lights dim. Sylvana’s persona, a Greta Garbo meets Alice Cooper circus leader of epic proportions, gallivants and taunts the audience with her cheeky, grandiose, and expertly divined performances of her original music. Influenced by everything from Rachmaninoff to film noir, her brand of rock touches on many genres, having equally delighted audiences for soul songstress Nikka Costa, internationally touring rock-jazz trio The Aristocrats, and funk-dance Moon Hooch. http://www.sjandthemoment.com ___________________________ Mike Rocket: Credited as "the hardest working man" by some, Rocket is different from many artists in his relentless, fearless, self-promoting, and outside-the-box tactics. Rocket often sets up and performs in places like Times Square, in concert parking lots, at network television shows like the TODAY Show, and by the entrances of large festivals in order to expose his music to the masses. To date he has been seen/heard on national television as well as on major New York, New Jersey, and Philadelphia radio stations, including over 30 visits to the TODAY Show. http://www.mikerocket.com/ ___________________________ Rachael Sage & The Sequins: Rachael Sage is a singer/songwriter, poet and visual artist who BLURT MAGAZINE describes as “the Carole King of her generation”. Since founding her own label MPress Records at the dawn of her career, Sage has steadily released a slew of vibrant, dynamic albums with poetic, image-rich lyrics, earning a loyal international following for her sophisticated musicianship, soulful vocals and improvisational audience interaction. http://www.rachaelsage.com ___________________________ Phil Robinson: Soulful singer/songwriter with questing lyrics and soaring harmonica! Stunning good looks, a quick wit, and trademark self-deprecating humor. If Bruce Springsteen, Cat Stevens and mythologist Joseph Campbell all had a baby together, Phil would be that baby, with one foot solidly planted in NY and the other somewhere in the astral plane. Can you tell he's written WAY too many of these bios!?! https://www.PhilRobinsonMusic.com ___________________________ Presented by: Roomful of Sky Music https://www.facebook.com/RoomfulOfSky/ https://www.instagram.com/RoomfulOfSky/ ___________________________
