Hey hardwarians,

I hope you’re all enjoying the Summer and still finding time to get the next iteration of your groundbreaking widget out to the world. As you’ve noticed I’ve taken a brief hiatus, but we’ll soon be back with more hardware meetups. It’s also been busy Summer for my startup Kinetic, and we’re hiring a Mechanical Engineer and a Senior Software Developer. Please help me spread the word (or apply yourself, of course!).

In hardware news, Octopart, the New York based startup that is a search engineer for electronic parts, recently got acquire by Altium, the very large PCB design software company. Sam Wurzel, their CEO, presented at our meetup recently, so big congrats to him and his team!

Events and launches:

  • September is a big month for hardware in NYC, and both Makerfaire is happening as well as MakerCon on September 24th. Get your tickets, while they’re cheap(er).
  • Two launches from our members worth noting. The first is Luvit, a real-life “Like” button which is making it’s debut on Kickstarter, and the second is Inoventive an online network and marketplace for developing hardware and physical products. Head there to hire talent, find consultants for your short-term projects, and outsource various product development activities to specialized companies. If you post a project in Inoventive by August 31 and complete it within 6 months, Inoventive will reimburse 10% of your total project value.

  • So every now and again, a dream job pops up. Ever wondered what the Shapeways factory must be like? Well, do you want to run it? Shapeways is looking for a Director of Manufacturing for their NYC factory.
  • Fusar, the startup building a motorcycle helmet with augmented reality is hiring iOS developers, UI/UX designers, and data analysts (sensor data) - check out their current job openings here. If you think you have what it takes to ride with us, we encourage you to send a cover letter and resume to [address removed]!
  • Bond, an amazing company that builds robots that write hand-written letters, is hiring a Director of Engineering to help with their crazy growth.

Keep building!
