Hi hardwarians,

That was quite the meetup the other day, right? What an inspiring group of founders and companies they’re building - a great way to end the year. Our next meetup will be on February 1st so make a note in your calendars. As a recap of our meetup last week:

  • We heard from Idan Cohen about the 5 hardware lessons he learned when building Boxee. He’s now on to his next hardware startup, a company with a mission to help folks grow food outdoors in their homes. He’s looking for a hardware and software engineers that are passionate about the space. If you’re interested in learning more, please contact him on [address removed]
  • We heard from Gabe Blanchelet at Grove ecosystem – a way to grow your greens inside your home with a beautiful product. They have 3 days to go on their Kickstarter campaign, so go ahead and support them!
  • We heard from Jeff Dachis from One Drop and how he’s designing a new experience for diabetics to manage their condition. Jeff is looking for Manufacturing Program Manager, with minimum 3 Years Experience managing overseas electronics hardware manufacturing processes from design handoffs through product delivery, Medical device experience a huge ++, Meticulous detail orientation, Great communicator, Highly organized, Self motivated, (PWD) Diabetes a ++. Reach out to him on [address removed]

Events, Crowdfunding campaigns and news:

  • Misfit, the consumer wearable company, got acquired by Fossil Group for $260M. That’s great news for hardware, and will hopefully convince skeptical investors that big exits are possible for hardware companies with similar capital requirments to software companies.
  • Fusar, one of our past presenters at the meetup, just launched an Indiegogo campaign for their retrofit device called Mohawk, which can be added to any helmet to make it smart. It’s pretty amazing, go check it out and support!
  • Here’s an article on the state of Hardware for 2015 by the folks from HAX. And you're still in time to apply to HAX's accelerator program in Shenzen. The website mentions the deadline to apply has expired, by Ben Joffe from HAX is willing to take some last minute applications if you hurry!
  • There is[masked] sqft soon available in a StartupNY space in Brooklyn Navy Yard for one or more companies. Companies must be expanding, adding jobs and early-stage companies doing so are also welcome. Contact Heidi Anderson at ITAC for more information: [address removed]

Jobs@Startups

  • At Kinetic, my startup that builds wearable devices to reduce workplace injuries, we’re looking for a full-stack developer to be our lead software engineer. If you’re interested or know of anyone interested, you can reach me on [address removed].
  • Indiegogo is looking for a manager of design and technology outreach for their NY office.
  • Nautilus Labs is developing marine surface drone technology and looking for a EE/firmware co-founder. Please reach out to Anthony diMare ([address removed]) for more information.

Have a great holidays folks and we'll be back in touch in the New Year. Keep building!
