Dear hardwarians,

I hope you enjoyed the July 4th holidays! We're going to take a break over August, but we’ll resume these meetups again in September. I’ll send you some dates when I have them, but here is a recap of last week's meetup which was pretty incredible.

  • We had Oden Technologies talk about real-time analytics for factory production and how they are bringing 20th century machines into the 21st century. They are hiring both hardware and software folks, and you can find out more here.
  • We had Assaf Glazer from Nanit, a smart baby monitor based on computer vision, so parents can learn about their baby’s sleep and more. Order a Nanit Smart Baby Monitor within the next 7 days using the promo code HARDWARENY and save over 30%!
  • Tracy van Dyk from Biolite told us about how she went about finding an electronics manufacturer in China. If you have any additional questions about that topic, reach out to [address removed]. Biolite is making a ton of new products and would like to offer a discount code: NYHW15 for 15% off a single item on their website. And they are looking for an experienced Firmware Engineer to join them in developing their next generation of clean energy solutions for both outdoor recreation and emerging markets. In this position you'll lead development of firmware for a range of exciting new products with potential for massive global health and environmental impacts.

And of course, the meetup would not be possible without our wonderful sponsors: Urban-X the urban technology accelerator brought to you by Mini and HAX and which is accepting applications for their fall program, Canary for the beer and UL for their startup program about certification.

Accelerators:

  • Techstars is a premier global startup network, accelerator, and venture capital fund with $265M AUM and over 750 accelerator companies to date. We are now accepting applications from now until July 10 for our IoT program in NYC in partnership with PwC, GE, Bosch, SAP and Verizon. Apply and connect with us at [address removed]. Here is a slide deck about the IoT program they are launching.

Crowdfunding Campaign:

  • One of our previous meetup presenters, Brooklyness, recently launched a Kickstarter for their Classon Helmet, a helmet that alerts you when cars are in your blind spot and activates turn signals & brake lights based on your body movements. Go check it out!

Jobs:

  • Aegle, a wearable technology company building products for the elderly, is putting together their MVP team, and is looking for a nontechnical sales/business co-founder as well as another technical founder for its Eldercare/Dementia startup. If you’re interested, please contact Krzysztof Sitko on [address removed].
  • We are a young startup in NY developing new consumer products in the wearable/tech market. We are looking for a rockstar engineer/team member who is creative and professional to help us complete prototyping our product. You should be experienced with wireless charging standards (Qi & Powermat), as well as basic charging circuits and flexible pcb. Should be able to deliver complete PCB layouts, BOM, and gerber files for production. Meet/work/Skype with team members about once a month (NY/NJ area). Paid freelance to start, must sign a basic NDA and provide examples of prior work. We are launching on Kickstarter in soon, so this is truly a great chance to be part of the next big thing! Contact: [address removed]
  • New York based company is looking for a freelance design engineer for a new application.Experience with minor connectors electrical and mechanical engineering preferable. For more information please contact Despina at [address removed].

Keep building!

Haytham
