Hey hardwarians,

I hope you’re all doing good and enjoying this warm winter – it’s more pleasant to debug your firmware while catching the occasional glance at the sun through your window.

If you’re looking for new things to read related to hardware, I recently discovered a fantastic newsletter by Nick Pinkston and his folks at Plethora called Industrial Evolution. Oh, and we hit over 4000 members on this meetup - I would say this is starting to become a rather numerous community.

In case you missed it, our previous meetup was pretty, darn, amazing:

  • We had Slava Rubin, cofounder of Indiegogo, talk about equity crowdfunding for your startup, which has a bunch of interesting variations. If you want to learn more, check out here. You can also email Federico Ribeiro if you have any further questions on [address removed].
  • We had Arlene Ducao from MultimerData, that is using brainwaves obtained from custom wearables together with other open source data sets, to produce maps of cities never seen before. She wanted you to know that  MIT Alumni Angels is looking for MIT-affiliated startups to pitch at their next event on March 8. Fill out this form to apply, and send Arlene a deck at [address removed] to get fast tracked in the process.
  • We had Sam Miller from Boston Biomotion, a New York based robotics company doing some impressive things in physical therapy, rehabilitation and fitness. They are looking for mechanical engineering, prototyping, and manufacturing talent and you can reach Sam on [address removed].
  • Also, as usual, thanks to our sponsors Microsoft, Canary and UrbanX for their support.

Events and Bootcamps

  • The 2017 Hardware Cup just launched. Any company with a physical product component is eligible (Internet of Things/Connected Devices, Consumer Products & Consumer Electronics, Fashion, Food, Manufactured Products, Health/Medical, Robotics, etc).  There's more info here: http://bit.ly/2jBmci4 and the application is here: https://www.f6s.com/thenationalhardwarecup/apply
  • Free IoT bootcamp on March 23rd, organized by Techstars and others. You can also apply to Techstar’s next IoT accelerator program here.
  • May 29 – June 3, 2017: The MIT Internet of Things Bootcamp is an intense, week-long course where students will build connected systems, using sensors, Arduinos, Raspberry Pis and other open source hardware. Students will also learn to collect data, share it on the cloud, and analyze it to solve big problems. Along with a hands-on component, admitted students will be able to learn from MIT faculty and guest speakers, and participate in a hackathon open to the public. Apply by February 26, 2017.

Jobs@Hardware Startups:

  • Radiator Labs, an award-winning leader in energy-efficiency and IOT, is looking for an experienced Project Manager to join our team and support our rapidly growing operations as we double the number of Radiator Labs installations in New York City buildings over the next three months.
  • Shade, a startup building wearables that detect UV exposure are looking for a manufacturing engineer.

Keep building!

Haytham
