Mid-summer ride farther West into the Catskills than ever before. We have three State Park sites reserved at Mongaup Pond Campground. Limiting number of riders to 18 peeps. Which is fine as it is a decent distance and elevation for loaded riding. This ride is not for the inexperienced or less than capable as it is just under 70 miles with 3,800 feet of elevation gain.
Mongaup is a regular NY State Campground so hammock not allowed, bathrooms and water available. Plus Mongaup as a pond we can swim in! Which will be great depending how the cycling gods decide to bless us with the weather that weekend.
Campsites: Loop A, 29, 26, 24. All right next to each other. Check campground map in images.
If you haven't already, please join our slack group at https://adv-slack.herokuapp.com/ and read through the #mongaup2019 channel.
All participants in this ride need to have some form of offline navigation. There is no cell reception at camp. RideWithGPS provides turn-by-turn navigation if you join our group account: https://ridewithgps.com/organizations/3741-nyc-adv/
Route to camp from Poughkeepsie:
Last good stop for groceries is a Walmart Supercenter in Napanoch, around mile 38.
Route from camp to Poughkeepsie (the same in reverse):
We are catching a 6:45am train from Grand Central Station to Poughkeepsie. If we aren't allowed to take everyone and their bikes on that train, we'll send some people on the 7:45am train and regroup on the other side. Aim to arrive at Grand Central by 6:15am.
Returning on Sunday, bike trains run once per hour.
See y'all Saturday morning! Join Slack if you've got stuff to say, or message us back here on Meetup.
