• NYC-ADV // SE 2 : EP 08 // Vernooy Falls Hike-a-Bike
We will be heading to Vernooy Falls. A beautiful waterfall with a state sanctioned campsite right next to it. No facilities near by. Bring a water filter and a trowel. It's 1.6 miles in from the road. Its a practically a two-track trail to camp. Here is hiking route: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/trail/us/new-york/vernooy-falls-trail You can read about the falls and see a pic of the campsite here: https://www.poughkeepsiejournal.com/story/sports/recreational/2018/06/26/vernooy-falls-trail-relaxing-catskill-hike-camping-site-kerhonkson-large-rattlesnake-population/732199002/ An alternate path might be biking a steep section of Trails End Rd and then walking a mile of flat trail to camp. I haven't been on that section yet. Image in gallery shows the alternative path, note the elevation change on the road. At this time of year it will be very cold in the valley. Depending on weather there may be snow in the area. Hopefully not, if snow is around that day we'll instead go to good ol' Peakamoose Valley. Making for a longer more difficult day, but thats plan B. https://goo.gl/maps/cwnHa8FWUGC2 40 Miles (61 Km) 2,000 Ft (610 m) of elevation gain Grocery stop at mile 21 Emmanuel's Market Place, 3853 Main St, Stone Ridge, NY 12484 Brewery stop at mile 28 Arrowood Farms Alt Route https://goo.gl/maps/2GY4h6FwL182 Sunrise: 6:45 AM 7:15 AM | Meet at Grand Central 7:40 AM | Depart Grand Central 9:45 AM | Arrive in Poughkeepsie --------| Ride 1hr 11:00 AM| Lunch 30 minutes New Paltz --------| Ride 1hr 1:30 | Grocery Stop 30 minutes Emmanuel's Market Place --------| Ride 1hr 3:00 | Brewery Stop 1 hour Arrowood Farms --------| Ride 1hr 5:00 | Hike-A-Bike 1 mile Sunset 4:30 PM :::::SUNDAY:::: https://goo.gl/maps/TSf5m1466cw 58 miles 1,600 Feet gain Camp>Waldn>Newburg Brewing Company>Beacon>Train via Wallkill Valley Rail Trail Ride Type: • Experienced touring/bikpacking riders only. Feel free to ride or take the train up Saturday and meet us at camp. A group of us will be heading out Friday night and meet at Grand Central at 8:00 PM to catch the 8:29 PM train. We will arrive in Cold Spring around 9:45 PM. From there we'll create an Aurora borealis in the skies over Fahnestock State Park as we back road gravel ride to our campsite for late night tent pitching, fire, and disco. The route will take us from the train station to a short section on 9D till we cut off onto Indian Brook Rd for night time gravel. We'll take that all the way to Dennytown rd. We'll be staying in the smallest group campsite Site #1. The others will be occupied. • NYC-ADV // SE 3 : EP ... something // Niagara ride-out weekend in Harriman
Even if you aren't joining the group for the epic ride to Niagara, you can still join for the first leg on an overnighter to Harriman! This is our beloved (not so) secret spot - a mainstay in our trips. It's a primitive site so come prepared for that. Good people, good vibes, good camping. The weather is looking good right now: not too warm in the day and not too cold at night. It's also looking sunny, but we ride no matter the weather. Comment here for questions. Join our slack if you'd like to chat with us https://nycadv.slack.com/ - and DM me if you want access to our channel. ------ +46.5 mi / 75 km +1965 ft elevation gain No running water or toilets.
