What we're about

This is a group for folks who love to get into nature but fall into one or more of these categories: 1) Somewhat daunted by 20 mile, 5000 ft elevation-gain day hikes; 2) New to hiking and camping; 2) Just like to amble along and enjoy the scenery and the company rather than rush to a destination. We do chill day-hikes, overnights, and just overall chill activities that will get us outside from time to time.

Note: Outdoor activities can lead to injuries. This meetup and organizers are not responsible for any sort of member injuries that happen at or after any events. Please be responsible and take care of yourself!

Urban Athletics: Street Art Bike Ride (Welling Court Murals)

If you know me then you know me then you know my love Hip-Hop culture and its trappings. One being graffiti, or its more socially appropriate moniker, street art. I've taken you on tours to see the art at the long gone 5Pointz and we regularly visit the Bushwick Collective to see what new artwork has popped up. Today we're taking a ride to enjoy the street murals at one of the city's newer artistic collectives--Astoria's Welling Court Mural Project. If you don't know, now you know. Click the link below for the 411. https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/welling-court-murals The Important Stuff ... • This is going to be a casually-paced (12 mph) ride of about 25 miles round trip. • Bring dough for lunch and drink. I've yet to decide on where we'll be dining at, but if you know me, it'll be somewhere delicious. • Make sure your bike is in good working order before the meetup and bring a lock to leave our cycles. Bring a spare inner tube, patch repair kit, and air pump. • Rain cancels the meetup. • Check your email before you head out for last minute meetup updates. • Sorry, no guests allowed for this one.

Urban Athletics: Tour de Staten Island Ride

Whitehall Terminal

I cycle all over the tri-state area but I've neglected the great biking right here in my own back yard. That ends now. Join me as we cycle our very own Tour de Staten Island. After assembling at the Whitehall Ferry Terminal, we'll gear up and hop on the Staten Island Ferry for the cruise to Staten Island. Once we disembark, we'll mount our two-wheeled steeds and head West along the waterfront. Our route will showcase Sailor Snug Harbor, before heading inland to the rest stop at Historic Richmondtown, followed by a challenging climb through the greenbelt, and a jaunt that navigates along the eastern coast with its miles of beaches and dramatic views of New York Harbor. As a reward for all of our hard work, we'll stop for an end of ride craft beer or three at the Flagship Brewery. Don't worry about having one two many, the ferry terminal and your ride home is just a short 10 minute walk away. The Important Stuff ... • This is going to be a casually-paced (12 mph) ride of about 25 miles round trip. There will be parts with some automobile congestion so you must be comfortable riding in a group and in traffic. Helmets are mandatory. • We'll be catching the 9:30AM ferry to Staten Island. Be on time as we're catching the ferry at this time with or without you. • Bring dough for a lunch stop, various snacks and drinks along the way. • Make sure your bike is in good working order before the meetup. You MUST bring a spare inner tube, flat tire repair kit and a lock to secure your cycle. • Rain or similar un-favorable weather cancels the meetup. For me at least. • Don't forget to bring your face mask for times when we can't socially distance. Plus you'll be required to wear one to ride the Staten Island Ferry.
