Details

PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION OF THE EVENT VERY CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU RSVP.

A MONETARY CONTRIBUTION TO THE EVENT IS REQUIRED BUT THE AMOUNT OF THAT CONTRIBUTION IS ENTIRELY UP TO YOU. (See details below.)

RAIN DATE WILL BE SUNDAY APRIL 24.

THE WEARING OF MASKS WILL BE OPTIONAL OUTDOORS. HOWEVER YOU MUST HAVE A MASK WHEN WE ARE INDOORS ON AT LEAST TWO OCCASIONS.

FIRST TIMERS WHO ARE SERIOUS ABOUT ATTENDING ARE WELCOME TO JOIN US.

Attendance will be initially limited to those members who have attended at least one event with this group during COVID and/or who have attended multiple events with this group in the last few years. No guests please at this time. I want to give very strong preference to those members who have supported this group since its inception given the fact there is limited registration.

I will keep a wait list for those who are first timers or who have not attended an event in a while. The wait list for this group does not operate in a conventional way. Those on the wait list will not be moved to the going list automatically.

PLEASE ALSO READ "WHAT WE'RE ABOUT" ON THIS MEETUP'S HOME PAGE BEFORE YOU RSVP IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE WAIVER OF LIABILITY ON "WHAT WE'RE ABOUT” NOW SPECIFICALLY REFERENCES THE CORONA VIRUS. (THE WAIVER OF LIABILITY HAS BEEN POSTED SINCE THE INCEPTION OF THIS MEETUP GROUP)

MEETING DETAILS WILL BE SENT BY E-MAIL TO THOSE WHO RSVP NO LATER THAN THE EVENING BEFORE THE HIKE. The meeting place will be easily accessible by public transportation. Parking options are very limited.

IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO, ON YOUR DESKTOP, PLEASE CLICK ON YOUR PROFILE WHICH IS ON THE TOP RIGHT OF THE SITE, THEN CLICK "SETTINGS", THEN CLICK E-MAIL UPDATES" ON THE LEFT. MAKE SURE YOUR E-MAIL UPDATES ARE ON AND WHERE IT SAYS "UPDATES ABOUT YOU”, CHECK MESSAGES BOX. THIS WILL HELP TO INSURE YOU GET MESSAGES FROM ME. I LIKE TO THINK THOSE MESSAGES ARE IMPORTANT.

IN ORDER TO CONDUCT THIS EVENT AS SAFELY AS POSSIBLE, I INTEND TO:

*MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING WHENEVER POSSIBLE.

*USE VOICE AMPLIFICATION IN ORDER TO AVOID PEOPLE CROWDING AROUND ME AND YOU.

*MINIMIZE COMMENTARY WHENEVER POSSIBLE AND KEEP THINGS MOVING.

*LIMIT REGISTRATION TO AROUND 25 PEOPLE.

I am going to request that everyone who attends this event make a monetary contribution but the amount of that donation is entirely up to you. Meetup charges an Organizer like me relatively little each month but I spend much time and effort planning and preparing for an event. You can contribute whatever you want at the beginning of an event.

Join us on a fast paced, fun five mile comprehensive hiking tour of all of Roosevelt Island. There should be cherry trees blossoming on part of the Island.

This is an interesting but weird little island which will be undergoing significant change in the very near future. We will visit the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Four Freedoms Memorial Park, we’ll see some old ruins, the Octagon, which has an amazing spiral staircase and is now an upscale residential building but was once a “lunatic” asylum and many other places. We will also view the fairly new campus of Cornell Tech that recently opened up and has expanded. Things have changed big time at Cornell Tech and the waterfront views are really great.

We will meet BEFORE 10: 30 A.M. and we will probably finish around 1:30
P.M. WE LEAVE PROMPTLY. NO FOOD STOPS. Bring snacks and water. Eat before or after we meet.

Please do not post any comments or questions prior to the event. You have more than enough information to do this once you get the meeting details. No offense, but I don’t need to know-and neither does anyone else- what you are doing that day if you can’t make it or what you think the weather will be. These comments are really annoying to me and other members. AFTER the event, post as many comments and photos as you like. PLEASE RESPECT MY WISHES ON THIS.

If the weather forecast is really bad, See the National Weather Service forecast or Accuweather like I do, I will post a notice on the day of the event by 8:00 A.M. If there is no notice, we go. We will finish around 1:30 p.m. right near the tram or subway.
