Now that it looks as if spring has truly arrived, it is time to put away
colorwork and hats and focus on another type of project.
Shawls are fun to wear in warmer weather....and can be even more fun to knit or crochet.
You
can work on a pattern that has been tempting you for a while (as
Kristin and Evelyn were last night, and as others probably are)...or you
can try one of these ultra tempting patterns
Renewal http://www.ravelry.co... by P'n'P member Jessica Miles.
I had this one in my queue before I even realized I knew its designer!
It's a gorgeous shawl with simple garter stitch and then fancier lace work.
Jessica
explains in the directions, how the design evolved. I think the shawl
will prove much easier to knit than it was to create.
There are
instructions for lace or finger weight. Also, for one color or to make
portions in each of two different colors. Instructions for the lacework
portion are charted, and written out (on the same page). Use whichever
format you prefer. And if you are looking to try charted instructions,
and need a 'security blanket', here it is.
The pattern starts
with a major garter stitch pattern, so if you are unfamiliar with the
increase process, etc., for shawls, you will have a chance to get the
hang of it.
Jessica has been responding to feedback 'fine tuning'
the pattern since it was written, so it should be just about perfect
now. If you/we have any questions, hopefully, she will be at more of
our meetups, and able to answer questions in person. I also think she
will enjoy watching us work on her creation.
Second knit shawl/scarf ...Clincher
http://www.ravelry.co...
Allie has been chomping at the bit since last fall to get started on this one. Go !!
This
pattern is called a 'scarf'. However the edging etc make it more
elaborate and easy to wear as a shawl. I call it a shawl, but what do I
know ?
It also can be made exclusively in one color, or portions in each of two colors.
The
major portion of the design appears to be unintimidating,
straightforward stockinette. Pick a gorgeous yarn and show it off !
And, as a bonus, this pattern has been re-worked in a crochet version....
http://www.ravelry.co...
to
date, only a handful of people have completed this version. It should
be easy enough to get help from other crocheters in the group should you
have any questions.
Melanie helped me (or actually selected for
me) two crochet shawls, so that we can have a little ecumenical fair
play. And this time, instead of my blindly picking some crochet
patterns, and actual crocheter will have vetted them.
Both designs have been made by a large number of people, so that is another endorsement.
And the descriptions suggest you can use a variety of yarn weights. So flexible !!
I can't do much more of the selling for these , so check them out for yourself and try them....
