Hi there herbivores.

As this last week of April ramps up, wanted to circle back and share a great number of tidbits and event plugs with you all (that you in turn share with others):
Doug & I enjoyed a great many dinner yummies at the new Seasoned Vegan (113th and St Nicholas), plus chatting up the owners, Chef Brenda and GM Aaron. While their Grand Opening is Saturday May 3rd, advising going up there mid/latter May after they have even more of a rhythm for all the eats and theme nights they’ll have up there. (Their salted pecan chocolate chip cookie is still making my mouth water just typing about it a full week later!)

Also enjoyed a great benefit concert hosted by the super-inspiring Our Hen House Friday evening (at Pine Box Rock Shop) featuring local wonder Joy Askew and the quite wonderful Washington-based quartet Br’er Rabbit.

It’s barely two days until ‘Snice West Village closes for good (April 25th). And I'm still grumbling about missing their much raved about chick'n pot pie wrap from this Winter (proper). Maybe the remaining Park Slope location will reprise it latter 2014.

Sad to share Cafe Blossom Uptown is closing on Mother's Day (as their rent was doubled).

On the flip side, excited about Doug’s scoop: Asbury Park, NJ has a new vegan Mexican place called Goldie’s! Who knew!! Mindblowing dessert pic here.

This Saturday April 26, Moo Shoes kicks off its triple play week with their Annual Spring Fling including good discounts, new items, and more!
Then on Wednesday April 30, best-selling NY Times author and vegan Gene Stone reads and signs The Awareness, the new vegan novel he's co-written. Regal Vegan[/url] and DF Mavens are sponsoring edibles.
Sunday May 4 is Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale to Benefit GooseWatch NYC.

For more Jersey and/or bake sale action, please know about the Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale – Montclair NJ Edition Saturday May 10. (And invite people in the area to this - especially the not yet veg ones!!)

Perhaps you just want to watch baking though. Well you can do that too! Check out local wunderkind Jay Astafa on repeat episodes of The Food Network’s Rewrapped Saturday, April 26th at 1:30pm, Monday, May 5th at 8:30pm, Thursday, May 8th at 6:30pm and Saturday, May 10th at 1:30pm. It’s also available on demand!

Speaking of Jay reminds me to mention some other vegan pop-up (related) info:

Our Persian Spread is a vegan dinner pop-up happening Monday April 28, with V-Spot as the venue host. Cheers to member Bina and her team for putting this together!

Young’s NYC and their fantastic vegetable-focused cuisine return for pop-ups Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, May 1st through 3rd. Please note their further creativity of the beer and cocktail pairings.

Ayinde (of Mac & Yease, touring chef for India.Arie and plenty other fame) has co-authored The Lusty Vegan: A Cookbook and Relationship Manifesto for Vegans and Those Who Love Them. Pre-order it today!

Also available for pre-order is Salad Samurai, the newest title by our very own local grrl gone great, Terry Hope Romero.

Inspired by this volunteer writing effort of these RoundUPs, I’ve started collecting vegan crowdfunding campaigns into a weekly list. These campaigns have been crucial to the success of a good few projects. And otherwise can illuminate what is(n’t) working around a particular project or business phase. This week’s lives here, while last week’s lives here.

Of huge importance for NYC metro is the much beloved, and super talented, Cinnamon Snail's campaign. PLEASE contribute to that campaign - more people AND more dollars are both necessary to their continued success.

Was surprised and giddy to learn Blossom du Jour has cookies, biscotti and pot pies on sale at Whole Foods Chelsea. Which sounds like a beta for regional or even national sales.

Whole Soy yogurts
are finally back in NYC after nearly a year. I’ve seen them at Westerly. With Whole Foods (at least Chelsea) having them on sale 4 for $5 through April 29th. (Cherry's my favorite flavor FWIW.)

Van Leeuwen sells seven vegan flavors of their ice cream pints now for $9.99. With at least Whole Foods Union Square and Westerly Natural Market carrying them. And the Salted Caramel is crazeeeee good! It’s $8.50 at the East Village VL store itself. If memory serves, DF Mavens' suggested retail price is $6.99.

As we’re in baseball season, please know Two Boots is serving up vegan pizza at Citi Field.

And finally, please check out #VeganFoodChat Wednesdays 8–9 pm from members Carlo & Carmella. Tonight's topic about Vegan in the Workplace.

OK time to wrap up this virtual buffet plate and get some actual eats on a plate here.

Be well!
