Description:

Thomas Edison built the complex of red brick buildings on West Orange’s Main Street in 1887. The facility, one of the largest & most technologically advanced for the time, allowed Edison to develop & mass produce many of his earlier inventions, including the phonograph, and to develop a movie camera, the nickel-iron alkaline electric storage battery and start the film industry.

The Meeting Place/Time for Those Taking Public Transportation:

As soon as you get off the train, meet the organizer on the westbound platform of the ORANGE Train Station at 10:45 AM. After we meet, we'll walk about a mile on Main Street from Orange, NJ to Thomas Edison Nat'l Historical Park in West Orange, NJ

Public Transportation from Manhattan to ORANGE, NJ:

At the NJ Transit section of NYC Penn Station, take 10:11 AM NJ Transit train (Morris & Essex Line) from NYC to ORANGE, NJ, arriving 10:42 AM.

Morris & Essex Line Schedule:

http://www.njtransit.com/pdf/rail/R0040.pdf

Before boarding train, buy ticket at the NJ Transit ticket window or vending machine. Get a ticket from NYC to ORANGE, NJ (Regular fare $6.75 one way; children/disabled/senior fare [62 years & older] $3.00 one way.) Purchasing a regular fare ticket on board train is more expensive (about $5 surcharge). However, children/disabled/seniors citizens [62 years & old] who show the proper identification may purchase a ticket on board the train w/o paying the penalty of higher on board prices.

Allow extra time because the ticket lines are sometimes long at NYC Penn Station.

The Meeting Place/Time for Those Who Are Driving:

Park your car in WEST ORANGE (somewhere near entrance to the Thomas Edison Nat'l Historical Park) & then meet the organizer & those who came by NJ transit train at 11:45 AM outside of the gate to Thomas Edison Nat'l Historical Park (entrance to the laboratory complex on Main Street). The address is 211 Main Street, WEST ORANGE, NJ.
