Why our group? What do you hope to contribute as a member of our group? PLEASE NOTE YOU MUST FILL OUT ALL QUESTIONS TO BE CONSIDERED..

Why? I saw your list of previous selections. Great and interesting choices. I’m eager to stretch myself, to read outside my comfort zone, and explore new thought-provoking reads, classic or otherwise, make new discoveries, and force myself to think more deeply about what I'm reading. While I wasn’t a comp. lit person or anything, once upon a time I studied Japanese literature. I guess I miss those halcyon days of yore, delving deeply into a text. I enjoy thinking about the various aspects of fiction that I lose myself in--the spinning of worlds, stories, characters. I would love to discuss these and related topics with other people, share ideas, and have great discussions.

Favorite Authors??

Margaret Atwood, Javier Marias, Alastair Reynolds, Caitlin Kiernan, Kafka, Joyce, Tolkien, Shirley Jackson, Faulkner, Steinbeck, Neal Stephenson, China Mieville, Orwell, Harlan Ellison, Bradbury, Poe, Neil Gaiman

Beloved Books??

Don Quixote, Lord of the Rings, Watership Down, Gormenghast Trilogy, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass, Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Snow Country (Kawabata), Makioka Sisters (Tanizaki), Grapes of Wrath, In the Name of the Rose, The Bell Jar, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Tell us a little more about who you are, where you come from...

I grew up all over the West, 13 states in all. Wasn’t an army brat though; my dad was a helicopter pilot. I spent junior high in Arizona, high school in Hawaii, and college in New York. I majored in East Asian Studies and learned Japanese, then headed off to Japan. After teaching English for a few years, I began working as a translator in Tokyo. After seven years in Japan, I came back to New York. Home. Oh, and I'm a Libra and a sci-fi junky (Star Trek, Farscape, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly...)

Introduction

I work at a small Japanese/English translation company. I read quite a bit, mostly sci-fi, weird fiction, a bit of fantasy, but classic and modern literary fiction as well.
