What we're about

Let's meet, play, teach, learn and talk story! Let's hear some ideas on where, when, etc. and go to ukulele events!. Also, please post your ukulele experience and musical interests. Check out who's performing and where. No experience? Come to our jams anyway. Best way to learn is by playing (or trying to play) with others!

Jersey City Ukulele Meetup: Online!

Link visible for attendees

Did you know there's a monthly ukulele group just across the Hudson?
It's true! It meets the first Saturday of the month, at 2 PM. And thanks to the pandemic, you can attend it without leaving your home!

It's in strum-along format. Audio latency (the time it takes sound to go from one person's microphone through the Internet to the next person's headphones) makes traditional strum-alongs impossible, but we're adapting. You can find the current draft of our songbook at https://www.dropbox.com/s/5oo22arol3das28/ if you want to prepare, but also I'll be putting the words and chords onscreen.

If you have a song you want to share that's not in the songbook, you can email it to me at [masked] . (If at all possible, please do this before the day of the event!)

You can RSVP at https://www.meetup.com/Jersey-City-Ukulele-Meetup/ or over here.

NOTE: I will send out a message with the Zoom link and password around noon on the day of the event, to people who RSVP here.

For seventeen years the Ukulele Cabaret has provided a stage for musicians, artists and performers from New York's underground ukulele scene.
Ted and Jason of Sonic Uke started the cabaret in May 2005 in the back of Julius bar in West Village. After outgrowing our stage there we settled in for a residency at legendary East Village gastropub Jimmy's 43, with cameos at Barbes, The Zipper Factory and Banjo Jim's.
"The uke scene is developing around here. It's quietly simmering": The New York Sun
Last month, it was almost 2 a.m. before Jason and Ted took the stage and invited all the performers up for the finale, their ukulele anthem, Four Strings or Fight: The New Yorker
"Don’t you just hate when there’s someone playing the ukulele between you and the bar?" Scotty said as he waited backstage: The Alternate Side Parking Reader
"No matter what your instrument of creativity may be, it is inspiring to see such diversity in talent so deep-rooted in a sense of community": Stephen Bailey
In summer 2017, the Ukulele Cabaret moved to The Red Room at the KGB Bar - an East Village speakeasy complete with a copper bathtub that was the headquarters of Emma Goldman's Secret Society of anarchists in 1914.
Shannon and Jason of Sonic Uke and the rest of the Cabaret crew are pleased to be back again in 2022!
