Winners of the Bring Your Favorite Bottle Event and Wine 101

The results are in and the wine that got the highest scoring is:

Prince Poniatowski Aigle Blanc Vouvray 1990, France

So the prize is to be shared between Preston and Martin. You both have a spot reserved in the French Wine & Cheese tasting I am doing on Thursday with Cheese Expert Chris Munsey. Please email me to claim your reservations.

Frankly, I am a bit surprised to see a Vouvray get the first place. It happens to be one of my favorite wines but I never saw it as a wine to please a large group of people. In any case, I am very happy to see that I was wrong and there is an audience for these wines.

You might be interested to know that a close contender was Lindemans Bin 45 Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 from Australia. Even more interesting is that this is a $10 bottle. I looked it up online and it seems like Columbus Circle Wines (on Broadway between 57th and 58th) carries this wine for $9.99 if you'd like to taste it for yourself.

Also, special thanks to Paula for bringing a fantastic bottle of Jean-Louis Chavy Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Les Perrieres which took the third place.

The photos from the event are online and as you can see (from my not so artistic contribution) we can use several volunteers to take photos at our events. So let me know if you'd like to photograph the next one.

I also put a Wine 101 on the calendar. Many more events to follow soon...

Wine 101

Cheers,
