[New-York-Oyster-Lovers] Shellshocked - Film on Oyster Beds

From: Crystal C.
Sent on: Sunday, April 21, 2013 7:11 PM
Hello Oyster Lovers,

One more event to keep on your radar: Caroline (who is a member of our Meetup) has organized a screening of Shellshocked, a documentary about the restoration of wild oyster beds in NY harbor. It is taking place May 16, and is part of an additional line up of events for the city's first ever Sustainable Seafood Week.

Tickets for the movie are $11 and you can RSVP here: http://www.meetup.com/Think-Act-Change-NYC/events/115105382/

Hope everyone's having a great weekend!

Hello Oyster Lovers,

A head's up on upcoming oyster-related events that you may be interested in:

Shell & Sake: an oyster and sake pairing class

While white wines are great, I've found that one of the best pairings for oysters is Japanese sake. On Mon 5/6 at 6:30 pm, there will be an oyster & sake pairing event at SakaMai (157 Ludlow St), to explore a wide range of sakes and oysters, and learn the faces and stories behind each brewer and farmer. Tickets are $75, for more details: http://shellsake.bpt.me

Baykeepers Oyster Fundraiser

The NY/NJ Baykeepers will host a panel discussion on rebuilding NYC harbor after Hurricane Sandy, with speakers from the Wildlife Conservation Society and WNYC. The fundraiser includes a raw bar, cocktail hour, and hearty hors d'oeuvres, and takes place Tues 5/7 at the Scandinavia House (58 Park Ave). Tickets start at $150: https://app.etapestry.com/onlineforms/NYNJBaykeeper/events.html

P.S. I know it's been a while since we've had a Meetup (there's been some organizational difficulties), but I'm hoping to announce one soon. Stay tuned!
