SITE INFORMATION:
• 'Passive House' inspired renovation -- This two-bedroom ‘ranch style’ house was completely renovated. The footprint of the house was kept in its original form, and the second floor was added on. Sustainability and energy efficiency were the main guiding ideas behind the project. Conditioned Area: 2,270 sf

• The house provides excellent levels of thermal protection and an airtight building envelope. The new building systems include: enthalpy recovery ventilation system, split system heat pump, and a photovoltaic system.

• The existing exterior walls were built-up to double stud walls achieving combined R- 33 value. The new main roof, a vented mono truss roof, got insulated with blown in cellulose insulation for R -60. The existing first floor joists were insulated to R-58. The new roof over one story structure was also insulated to R-58. The existing basement walls were internally insulated achieving R 23.

• Taping and sealing of the new plywood sheathing was performed. The double stud wall features a smart vapor retarder installed below the new 2x3 wall.

• Triple-paned windows were installed.

• The new heating/cooling system is a Split System Heat Pump with two internal air handlers distributing conditioned air through ducts. Auxiliary heating, for extremely low temperatures, is provided by means of electrical baseboards.

• The fresh air is delivered by ERV. Exhaust boosters are installed at all bathrooms and kitchen ducts. An recirculating fan is provided at the kitchen stove.
