What we're about

We're a new Hiking group .... with as much emphasis on the scenery as the workout ..!!

hiking in awesome surroundings..we make sure to remember every step and take in the amazing views , coastlines , mountains and native forests ..

Getting from A to B is just the start of it, we believe in Hiking places where you will escape the busy life and enjoy the raw sounds of nature and the impressive landscapes.

We encourage social interaction with your fellow hikers and making new friends with like minded people who share your interest in our amazing big backyard..!! Bring a camera and take away pictures that make memories ..

Our events are a mix of day trips and multi day hikes , we offer walks and Hikes in Auckland and the rest of NZ . Hikes are graded on a scale of 1-5 with 1 being easy , you can choose something that suits your level of fitness and experience .

The group and Hikes are free to join , we ask only for a gold coin donation on your first hike with us towards the website costs. Some overnight and island trips will have additional expenses , but we aim to keep any costs down as much as possible by planning well ahead ..!

Some Tracks are easy and require little or no experience , others are expert routes and can be in winter alpine environments . We take safety seriously and all tracks have been walked and assessed by the Event Organizer prior to any group trips. Harder events have some restriction on participation purely for your safety..

We are an Auckland Based group but we welcome people from all over and visitors or backpackers passing through

We are all about exploring and discovering some jaw dropping landscapes, and I look forward to sharing some of these places with you on our guided hikes..

Aoraki Mount Cook Village

In late June I will be heading down to the Southern Alps again There is an opportunity for a small group of 6 to join me on an NZ Explorers trip. NZ Explorers is in the name, we're about exploring and this trip is all about that..!! There is a formal plan for tracks , however winter is unpredictable and can change very quickly. Weather is never guaranteed and can disrupt plans easily. The hikes will take us into Alpine territory and tracks will have snow and ice. This is a hiking trip and DOES NOT include any technical mountaineering that requires safety ropes and such equipment. The tracks have been selected to minimize the risks as much as possible. To join this trip you NEED to answer YES to ALL of the points below " No Compromises " 1 - Experienced Hiker able to hike all day from 7:00am to 5:00pm 2 - Comfortable and competent to walk on snow and ice 3 - Have crampons and Ice Axe or are willing to Hire 4 - Have correct winter hiking clothing, Thermals, Mid Layers, Gloves and Good Jacket. Windproof and waterproof clothing is essential 5 - Can hike in temperatures below zero without complaining ( If you're cold then you have the wrong clothing ) 6 - Have personal first aid kit and know how to use it 7 - You are happy to follow the plan I make that could change on the day 8 - You are a responsible hiker and will not put the groups safety at risk 9 - You can commit to the 4 Day trip and organise flights yourself 10 - You can pay for your accommodation / Transport upfront before arriving RSVP's will not open for this event due to the nature of the environment, the increased risks and the necessity to use equipment like crampons and Ice Axe. To be considered for this event you will need to message or email the leader requesting to join and confirming your acceptance of all the above points. You will need to answer a few more questions via message. If you are selected then you will be moved to the " GOING LIST " and you can then make your travel arrangements. Travel : You will need to book your airfares with the aim to arrive in Queenstown on Friday June 28th at 10:30am . Return flights can start leaving Queenstown after 6:30pm on Monday 1st July. Trip Plan: Day 1 / 28th June : - Short Hike TBA on route to fill the day on our way to Aoraki Mt Cook from Queenstown airport Day 2 / 29th June : MT COOK- Day Hike to Ball Hut ( Return hike ). This track is relatively flat with few inclines, however challenging in winter, punching through deep snow and ice, so don't under estimate this one..! The track follows the Moraine wall of the Tasman Glacier and passes through known Avalanche areas. Day 3 / 30th June : WANAKA - Day Hike Roy's Peak Track to Mt Alpha. This track is a continuous climb from the base to top on a well formed wide track. However snow and ice will be present making the ascent more tricky. Mt Alpha summit from Roy's Peak summit will only be possible with good visibility and clear weather. So this will be decided on the day. Day 4 / 1st July : WANAKA - Day Hike , 2 possibilities, weather dependent 1 - Isthmus Peak 1385m 2 - Rocky Mountain / Diamond Lake Each track will give us options for a good hike with some stunning views to Mt Aspiring National Park. Snow conditions and weather will decide the choice of track on our final day. After Hike, travel back to Queenstown for flights home. Accommodation - This will need to be pre-paid and is estimated at $60 per night for 3 nights in a bunk / bed in shared mixed cabin with rest of group. Final cost will be set when we have final numbers. Transport - A hire van will be used at approx costs of $90 each with fuel and insurance You will need to pay for hire vehicle and accommodation upfront at least a week out from the event start date !! Full details will be given after confirmation of your attendance If your interested then please contact me via private message on here or on our email address to discuss further - [masked] Danny
