"Though most people take up tai chi for the tremendous health benefits, others are intrigued by the fact the style is actually a highly-effective martial art. Emphasis is placed on cultivating “chi,” or internal energy, as opposed to simply developing muscle mass and brute force."
Push hands and how to apply it as basic self-defence
To know yourself, practice the form. To know others, practice push hands
There is nothing mysterious about doing push-hands. The effectiveness of push-hands is directly related to your ability to relax inside and to “listen.” Doing push-hands will teach you to be centered, relaxed, responsive, soft and yielding. In addition, it will help you gain an understanding of your internal power
Like a tree swaying with the wind, practitioners yield to incoming forces, never directly against it. They listen to each other, finding the weakness of each other's structure and constantly changing and adapting themselves to prevent their weaknesses from being exploited by the other.
