What we're about
"Welcoming beginner to experienced guitarists (acoustic or electric), and vocalists who want to get out of the living room and play with other local guitarists and vocalists. We are fun, approachable, considerate, and sharing individuals. Some members have very little guitar/vocal experience, but have a desire to learn, and other members have many years of guitar/vocal experience, Our members are a non-judgmental group. We all know how difficult learning to play a guitar is on your own.
If you decide to join, your must put a recent photo of yourself in your profile. You must be willing to attend 1-2 meetings per month. Contact the Organizer if a situation arises that may preclude you from attending meetings. We ask that you bring a guitar (acoustic, acoustic electric, or electric with small amp., music stand and any music materials, if you are a beginner, that were provided to you to the meeting.
Our Meetup home page (Guitarists/vocalist N Broward) has a calendar of future dates for meetings and a map to their locations. The agenda may include songs we will be playing at that meeting. Please download the lyrics w/chords from one of the many free internet sites beforehand. Don't worry if you don't know the song or know how to play the song. Whoever in our group adds the song to the selection list will show the group how to play the chords. If you are a true beginner let the Organizer know and someone with the group will assist you.
Our group meets in Coconut Creek (BCC), and Margate libraries every other week. We are always looking for new locations to hold a meeting as long as there is no rental charge. If you happen to know of one, contact Dennis (your Organizer).
**Your first two meetings with us are free to give you time to get acquainted with our members and decide if you fit in with our group Group members pay $2.50 per month to offset the MeetUp web service fees. If there are any extra funds, the group will vote on how they should be disbursed. On your first visit you will be asked to show a valid Florida ID and sign in as required by Meetup. This is for your safety and the safety of the entire group.
This group is consists guitarists and vocalists of all levels. Please respect other members by not noodling on your guitar when someone is speaking. There is a long standing rule in our group that we refrain from hard rock, heavy metal, heavy distortion/fuzz settings on your amp. or pedals on days we decide to play electric. Please clean channel only. If/when we perform at venues it is always on a volunteer basis.
**If, on the day or our meeting we have exceptionally heavy rain at a time we are supposed to start, do the prudent thing and protect your guitar, amp. (if we are playing electric), and any other equipment you may be bringing to the meeting, with plastic or some other rain proof material.
Most of all we are here to learn from others and have fun. Bring a positive attitude and you'll fit in nicely with the rest of the group.
