• What we'll do
As part of their effort to promote women in science, and particularly in data science, the prestigious Stanford University (Stanford, California), in coordination with several sponsors and global visionaries from the private sector, have been organizing, for a couple of years already, an international conference about Women in Data Science (http://www.widsconference.org/). Featuring female-only speakers but open to all, the conference has reached a wide audience, not only through the main event held in Stanford, but also thanks to hundreds of satellite events globally.
We're proud to be partnering with the Biosciences eastern and central Africa hub which is hosted at the International Livestock Research Institute (Nairobi, Kenya), and is harnessing the power of genomics data through bioinformatics analyses to strengthen the agricultural sector in Africa. We are going to organize and host at ILRI a one-day event about Women in Data Science (WiDS) on March 8th 2018, as a local sister event to the main event taking place this year on March 5th in Stanford, USA. March 8th is the International Women’s Day and we will be happy to showcase women in data science as part of the global celebrations. The event at the BecA-ILRI Hub will comprise of local talks by female leaders in (IBM, DataScience LTD, Africa's Talking) as well as more junior women in various fields of data science together with broadcasts of the Global WiDS conference held at Stanford a couple of days earlier.
