Napa Valley Insight Meditation offers meditation training and spiritual teachings from Buddhist and other wisdom traditions. We are dedicated to supporting the cultivation of mindful awareness and compassion in daily life. Our mission is to support one another in applying the teachings and practice of mindfulness meditation and loving-kindness within ourselves, our relationships, our work and our society. Our programs include (or will include) meditation classes, daylong retreats, sitting groups, workshops, and other classes.

Most of the teachers and the founding members of NVIM have been trained in the American Insight or Vipassana movement. The Insight tradition focuses on the practice of mindfulness and loving-kindness meditation, and draws mostly on the early teachings of the Buddha. However, it is also a nonsectarian and generally pluralistic stream of Buddhism that is open to all, and is non-religious in nature.

NVIM does not require payment for any of our gatherings, programs or events. The support of our teachers, facility use fees and supplies is done through the voluntary donations of our community.

NVIM's weekly gatherings and sitting groups, events, daylong retreats and classes welcome new and experienced practitioners from all spiritual and meditation traditions. We value diversity and welcome people of every race, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, age, and physical ability. To find out more about upcoming events, please check out our calendar.

Special Guest: Jill Satterfiled - Online

On Tuesday September 29th, Napa Valley Insight Meditation will host a talk by Jill Satterfield. Jill is an international mindfulness and meditation teacher, wellness program director, speaker and coach. Jill’s integration of mindfulness and embodiment practices include yoga, yoga therapy and contemplative psychology. She has been in the field of integrative healthcare for over 35 years. Jill is the founder of Vajra Yoga + Meditation, a synthesis of meditation and mindfulness of the body practices from the Buddhist tradition. She is also the founder and Director of the School for Compassionate Action: Meditation, Yoga and Educational Support for Communities in Need. Jill is a founding faculty member of Spirit Rock Meditation Center’s Mindful Yoga and Meditation Teacher Training, UCLA’s Mindful Awareness Research Center trainings, the Somatic Yoga Therapy Training in Marin California, and guest teaches in many others. She has been featured in the New York Times, More, Crains, Yoga Journal, UK’s Yoga Magazine, Happinez Magazine of Holland and Tricycle Magazine, Shambhala Sun amongst others.

Thursday Morning On-line Meditation

NVIM will host our Thursday morning silent meditations by Zoom during this time of Shelter-in-Place. The meditation will begin promptly at 9 am. All are welcome. We will begin with an inspirational reading followed by a 30-minute silent meditation period, followed by a short 10-minute period in which individuals may comment on their own practice, while the group listens in silence.

NVIM will continue to meet online until the shelter in place restrictions have been removed. Please join us Tuesday evenings at 7:00pm for a one hour on-line discussion and meditation via Zoom. The zoom meeting link will be sent out to all subscribers approximately two days prior to this event. Our meeting structure for our on-line sangha will generally follow the format below: Welcome/Opening: 10 min Gently Guided Meditation: 25 min Reflections/Closing 10 min All are welcome!
