Hi All,
This Tuesday evening (July 29th), Rik Center will be our guest teacher. Rik is the co-founder of the Mindfulness Care Center in San Francisco (MCCSF), where he serves as a Somatic Stress and Trauma Counselor/Practitioner, Mindfulness Meditation Teacher and Buddhist/Interfaith Chaplain. He has been meditating since the late 1980's and is a member of the Spirit Rock Community Sangha.
Before tomorrow’s sit, we will be gathering from 6 to 7 pm for a potluck with Rik. All are welcome to attend. You are invited to bring a vegetarian dish to share.
Upcoming Events
August 9th: There is still time to RSVP for our trip up to the Abhayagiri Buddhist Monastery outside of Ukiah. We will be joining a group led by Rik Center from MCCSF. To learn more about the trip click on the link below:

August 31st: Come join us as we carpool to Spirit Rock to spend a day with Ayya Anandabodhi and Ayya Santacitta, Buddhist nuns in the Theravada Forest Tradition. They will provide teachings on the Four Noble Truths and how we will learn to implement this practice in our daily lives. In addition, Isabelita Papa will offer qigong in the early afternoon. This is a dana (donation) based daylong, which means there is no entrance fee.
We will meet at the front door of the Target located in the shopping center on the corner of Imola and Soscol Ave. We will organize our carpool there and leave for Spirit Rock at approximately 8:00 am. Please try to arrive on time.

During our guest teacher nights, I am reminded about how grateful I am for our growing meditation community here in Napa and the support we are receiving from so many wonderful teachers around the bay area. We are truly blessed to live in a region of the country where insight meditation and Buddhist practices are flourishing, allowing more of us to find greater meaning, purpose, and satisfaction in our lives and in our work. It is extremely satisfying to me to see so many people stepping up to take on a leadership role in the Sangha. Helping to find guest teachers, organizing field trips, putting up fliers, setting up our sits, etc. I believe we are building a real community can be a beacon here in the North Bay for those looking for support in their meditation practice and in their daily lives.
Thich Nhat Hanh says this about community: It is possible that the next Buddha will not take the form of an individual. The next Buddha may take the form of a community - a community practicing understanding and loving kindness, a community practicing mindful living. This may be the most important thing we can do for the survival of the earth.
As a small but growing Sangha, we are part of the larger community of meditation practitioners that is spreading throughout California and the U.S. Together may we learn to live in a more generous, ethical and kindly manner, so that we can have a more harmonious and happy life, and help others to do the same.
