What we're about

This NVW Meetup is a pathway to the non-profit organization Napa Valley Writers, a branch of California Writers Club. CWC-NVW is a professional organization open to writers in every genre and at every level of experience, from novice to notable. Our purpose is to promote fellowship and to provide practical information that supports all members in achieving their publishing goals.

NVW meetings are always open to the public and our Meetup friends.

To join NVW and receive all the benefits of the group, please contact info.napavalleywriters@gmail.com .

If you're one of those local writers in search of a critique/writers group, people with whom you can share your work, share your time, people who can help you become a stronger writer, ask NVW about our critique groups.

NVW meets regularly to learn from and help each other. Monthly meetings feature well known authors and offer an opportunity for members to read from their current works. Cost is $10, guests; $7 NVW members; Free to full-tim students with ID.

NVW also sponsors workshops, open mic events, salons, and social activities. A branch of the California Writers Club, founded in 1909 and one of the nation’s oldest professional clubs for writers, our motto is Writers Helping Writers.

We look forward to meeting you at one of our upcoming events. There's a place here for you.

Napa Valley Writers will feature actress Charlotte Stewart and writer Andy Demsky on Wednesday, October 12 from 7-9 p.m. Charlotte Stewart, a veteran actor of TV and film, worked with writer Andy Demsky to write her memoir Little House in the Hollywood Hills, published by Bear Manor Media in 2016. Stewart and Demsky will discuss their process for creating the book, offering approaches that worked for them to write and publish a successful memoir.

Charlotte Stewart is a celebrated film and television actor, widely known as beloved schoolteacher Miss Beadle on Little House on the Prairie, as well Mary X in David Lynch’s cult classic, Eraserhead, and as Betty Briggs in Lynch’s iconic TV series, Twin Peaks. She has worked with leading men from Jimmy Stewart and Elvis Presley to Kevin Bacon and Kyle MacLachlan. Today she makes her home in Napa and throughout the year enjoys attending fan events.

Andy Demsky is a writer who has co-written A Vineyard in Napa with Doug Shafer and Little House on in the Hollywood Hills with Charlotte Stewart. Most recently he wrote Unleash Your Inner Tudor, a mock-self-help book written in the voice of Henry VIII, based on Demsky’s popular Twitter account: @KngHnryVIII

Peggy Prescott will be October’s Member Reader. Prescott has been writing with Solstice Writers (formerly George Stratton's class) since retiring from teaching. She has won numerous awards in Jessamyn West contests in fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. Her book Neurotic's Guide to Retirement was published in 2010. Her primary focus now is trying to find out what to do with all those folders filled with years of poetry.
