Well, it may be bring your own beer, and make your own pizza, night; but if you would like to learn more about the vi editor, we are still on for April 14th via WebEx.

If you call it Visually Impossible, Virtually Inept, or the Visual Interface to the ex editor; vi is the one editor that will be on every version of Linux and UNIX world wide. You may prefer Pico, Nano, Emacs, vim, or some other editor; but there is no guarantee that those editors will be available on every system that you walk up to. However, vi will be there.

(Yes, some people are so ingrained with using vim that they forget to try vi when vim returns “command not found”)

I agree that vi has a (sometimes steep) learning curve, but once you have become comfortable with it, you can edit files anywhere; and if you work with programs, it truly is a programmer’s editor.

My goal is to help lower the learning curve, and to show you mechanics that most people are not even aware of, including copy/paste operations between files and how to map key sequences to perform custom operations.

Oh, and if you are easily bored, I have a security topic that will hopefully make you sit up, and take notice…

Besides – vi vi vi is the editor of the devil… Join us, if you dare! 😉
