What we're about
"Since we can’t know what knowledge will be most needed in the future, it is senseless to try to teach it in advance. Instead, we should try to turn out people who love learning so much and learn so well that they will be able to learn whatever needs to be learned."
This is a group of free-thinking, unschooling families. We encourage all ages to join. We have a wide range of activities including (but certainly not limited to) social gatherings at members' homes, park gatherings, hikes, book discussion groups and more. This is a member-supported group, rather than organizer-led. It is a group effort to provide activities on the calenders, contribute to our database, and have an active message board.
This group is open to all unschooling families; grandparents, parents, close family friends, kids, and teens. Pretty much anyone who takes an active role in the unschooler's education is invited to join.
For the safety of the group, all members must be met in person before being approved in the group. Once you apply to join the group, please check your email as their will be a message from an organizer to set up a time and place to meetup. If you don't see it in your email, please check your meetup messages (on desktop or laptop in the top right corner, and on the app in the bottom right corner), because it will definitely be sent there. If it's easier to communicate via texting, after you apply to join the group please send a message to the organizers with your cell number. Never heard of the term unschooling? Here is a video of a mom (and unschooling advocate) explaining the basics.
We are a group of no-drama folks who are looking for a safe place to go without being judged and to get support from like-minded individuals. We treat children with respect and loving patience. Many of us have a "parenting style" similar to Alfie Kohn's Unconditional Parenting. If that is what you are looking for please join us!
